Apple purée

If apple sticks to the pan, add 1–2 tbsp of water and reduce heat

  • 1 medium eating apple (soft apples will cook more quickly than crisp ones)
  • Your baby's usual milk or cooled, boiled water


  1. Peel, core and cut apple into small pieces.
  2. Cook in saucepan with 75ml (5tbsp) of water until bubbling. Stir, reduce heat and cover.
  3. Cook gently, stirring occasionally, for 10–15 mins.
  4. Once soft, remove from heat and cool slightly, then add 4−5 tbsp of the water or milk.
  5. Blend with food processor or hand blender until runny and smooth. Add more liquid if you need.

  • Your baby’s food should be served at body temperature – so it shouldn’t feel either hot or cold on the inside of your wrist.
  • Freeze excess food in ice cube trays, covered with a lid or cling film, and sealed in a plastic bag – write the date on the bag. Purées can be kept frozen for up to 1 month.
