Breastfeeding is best for babies and provides many benefits. If you are a breastfeeding mum or mum-to-be who’s planning on breastfeeding, it’s important that you eat a healthy, balanced diet. You should also be aware that combined breast and bottle feeding in the first weeks of life may reduce the supply of your own breastmilk, and reversing the decision not to breastfeed is difficult. The social and financial implications of using an infant milk should be considered. Improper use of an infant milk or inappropriate foods or feeding methods may present a health hazard, so if you decide to use an infant milk be sure to follow manufacturer’s instructions for use carefully. Failure to follow the instructions could make your baby ill.

Because powdered milks are not sterile, failure to follow instructions may make your baby ill.

  • 1

Wash hands and sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers' instructions

  • 2

Boil freshly run water. Leave to cool for 30 minutes. Do not use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water.

  • 3

Measure the required amount of water (refer to feeding guide) into a sterilised bottle. Do not add powder to boiling water due to risk of scalding.

  • 4

Using the scoop provided, level off the powder with the built-in leveller. Do not press/heap the powder.

  • 5

Add one scoop to every 30ml (1 fl oz) of boiled cooled water. Add the correct number of scoops to the water. Adding too many or too few scoops can be harmful.

  • 6

Replace seal on bottle. Shake well for 10 seconds to dissolve powder. Remove seal, replace with a sterilised teat.

  • 7

Cool under running tap. Check temperature of feed. Feed immediately.

  • For hygiene reasons, do not store made up feeds. Make up each feed as required and always discard unfinished feeds after 1 hour.
  • If necessary offer cooled boiled water between feeds.
  • Infants should be supervised at all times when feeding.
  • Do not heat in a microwave. Hot spots may occur and cause scalding.
  • Storage – use powder within 4 weeks of opening and store in a cool dry place – do not refrigerate.

Please follow these instructions carefully:

  1. Wash hands. Ensure all equipment is sterilised.
  2. Ensure top of carton is clean. Shake carton well and cut open where indicated using a clean pair of scissors. Pour the required amount of milk into a sterilised bottle.
  3. Cow & Gate Nutriprem 2 can be given at room temperature, or warmed if desired. If warmed, check temperature of feed.
  4. Do not heat in a microwave. Hot spots may occur and cause scalding.
  5. For hygiene reasons, discard unfinished feeds in the bottle as soon as possible, and always within 1 hour.
  6. After opening, reseal the carton by holding down the spout. Unused feeds still in the carton must be refrigerated immediately and used within 24 hours.
  7. When bottle feeding do not allow prolonged or frequent contact of milk feeds with your baby’s teeth as this increases the risk of tooth decay. Ask your health professional or dentist for advice. Make sure your baby’s teeth are cleaned after the last feed at night. Never leave your baby alone during feeding.
