When babies start to chew on objects, it can be a sign they’re ready for mashed food. They will now be able to cope with more texture, and they’re probably ready to enjoy some more adventurous tastes too. Introducing plenty of variety in the first year teaches them to enjoy lots of different tastes in future. If you need any guidance with introducing new foods, just get in touch and speak to one of our experts.
Sam, nutritionist
Cow & Gate Baby Balance offers balanced nutrition for your baby at every stage of weaning, from breakfast through to lunch, dinner and desserts. Our stage 2 foods introduce tempting new tastes such as aubergine and mushroom with mashed textures, which are great for learning to chew. Trying a wider variety of ingredients will help your baby develop a liking for different tastes and encourage healthy eating habits in later years. It will also help them get the balance of nutrients they need for all that growing!
Our delicious Stage 2 range of meals includes 20 nutritionally balanced recipes, with up to 7 different vegetables, to help you give your baby the nutrition they need. And now we also have a choice of 6 delicious and healthier sauces which are full of flavour, making them the perfect base for a healthy homemade meal. All made with only the best baby-grade ingredients and no artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives, this stage introduces tempting new vegetables to help them develop a taste for a wide variety of foods.

Keeping an eye on your baby’s salt intake
Savoury meals are an important part of your baby’s diet and, being `savoury`, they are more likely to
contain salt. Some of our baby and toddler savoury meals contain salt. This is because salt is found
naturally in some of the ingredients we use. But rest reassured: all our savoury meals are within
baby control standards and below the maximum level allowed by the EU (Directive 2006/125/EC).
To ensure that your baby’s daily salt intake stays within recommended levels, always check food
labels and remember, salt can also be listed as sodium.
At Cow & Gate we are committed to reducing the levels of salt in our savoury meals to an absolute
minimum over the coming months and help you get the best for your baby. You can click here to see
which of our meals contain salt and how much.
