Not-so-cute baby behaviourDeath trap baby

My son is approaching 17 months and is totally fascinated by electrical things. He can remove socket guards and plug things in, switch things on and press all the right buttons. It has come to the point that we don't watch tv or listen to music while he is awake. He has to be locked out of the kitchen at all times because he can operate the washing machine and the tumble dryer. And the list goes on. I know it wont last forever but it has turned into quite a problem, and i wondered if anyone else's child behaves like this and what did you do to stop them?!!

Hey, my daughter has jus turnt 17months and she sounds exactly the same as your son! Wen im doing my washing now i get her to join in by letting her carry clothes for me and put stuff in2 the tumble dryer and letting her turn it on, it seems to have worked as its cracked the problem i had with her trying to play with them before hand. With things like plug sockets i found a firm no some times works but it can be quite fustrating. ill keep you updated and let you no if i find anything that works completly but i think things lyk pushing buttons and turning the tv and things off are all just a normal part of a childs development as they are trying to impersonate you. good luck and just bear with it hopefully the phase will past soon enough xx

Hi there, this might seem slightly extreme but one good way of stopping him doing what he is doing i.e plug sockets, washing machines etc is to put padded mittens over his hands when he is playing as this will stop him being able to getting hold of buttons, sockets etc and into things he shouldn't be getting into, as MITTENS (not gloves as he will still be able to grasp things too easy) will still allow him to still pick things up and play in the normal way. This does work as I used it on my 3 little nephews they are my sisters boys. Good luck and let me know how it goes!!!
