Pain!

Written on 18/10/2008 16:44:39 by sian22

Hi All
I gave birth to my daughter 5 weeks ago and everything went really well. The only problem I have now is that im still bleeding. It had almost stopped by 3 and a half weeks after the birth but then started again and got quite heavy and was also passing some clots. The bleeding has slowed down again now and isnt so bad but im still getting horrendous stomach cramps. Im constantly taking painkillers but to be honest they arent really touching the pain. Im worried that I may have an infection or something. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? My daughter has her 6 week check up next week but I havent received my appointment for my check yet.

Hi, Thanks for the comment. I was told by my midwife that the afterpains do tend to be worse the more babies you have and as my daughter was quite big, 9lb 2 1/2oz's at birth they could be quite bad as my body would have to work harder to contract back down to normal size. The only thing that was worrying me was that I am still in pain almost 6 weeks after the birth. I dont remember the afterpains being so bad with my first child.

hi, i was in constant pain after my first son was born. the health visitor said it was because i got so big during the pregnancy that my whom was still contracting, it does this to try and get back down to a more natural size. if you are worried then make an appointment with the doctor or speak to someone when you go for your daughters 6 week check. good luck and congratulations on you little bundle.
