All worth it in the end
Written on 20/11/2008 13:44:06 by babyfergie
As a 1st time Mum I read all the books & magazine articles on labour & birth so I felt quite prepared for when the moment arrived. My waters broke at 4.30am on my due date (which was quite a shock as I was told hardly any babies arrive on their due date! ) I went into a state of mild panic & woke my husband up who as per usual was totally calm about it all & advised me to ring the hospital. I was advised by the hospital to come in to be checked over but not to rush & after much deliberation we went to the hospital. I was examined on arrival & put on a monitor for half an hour, after which the midwife said I was being induced as there was blood in my water & I stupidly asked if I could go home & wait for my labour to start!! I was given 2 doses of prostin but 10 hours & no contractions later told I needed to be put on a drip to bring things along. The drip was hooked up & eventually my contractions started & oh how they started! Gas & air, 2 lots of pethadine & 13 & a half hours of labour later I was still only 5 cm dilated. Hubby had been sent home for some sleep & my Mum had come for moral support, I'm so glad she was there, sometimes a girl just needs her Mum. The midwife looking after me brought in the consultant & they decided that an emergancy caeserean was needed as my baby needed to be delivered now. Hubby was called back to the hospital & it was all systems go, however I didn't feel panicked at all as all the staff were v reassuring & I felt in safe hands but so looking forward to meeting my baby. Once in theatre it seemed like only seconds & our beautiful baby son was being handed to his Dad while I got sorted out. He was perfect & I felt such an overwhelming sense of love & relief to see him. I didn't have the labour & birth that I had originally anticipated but it was all worth it in the end, our son Noah is now 7 weeks old & such an amazing little boy we feel very blessed.
