Hi my name is Leanne i am currently 7 months pregnant, me and my partner have allways said that i would breast feed because it would be good for me and the baby but just recently after scanning the web and reading pregnancy books it says that you should breat feed for at least 6 weeks before even introducing a bottle but i don't like the idea of that because i want my partner to bond with our newborn just as much as i will be feeding. Can i express milk as soon as babys born and use a bottle???

I'm exactly the same, i'm not keen on breastfeeding but want my baby to get all the benefits from breast milk so i'm going to express milk and bottle feed baby. Its fine to do this as some women bottle feed as soon as baby is born and also premature babies who have to be in an incubator are normally bottle fed, whether its expressed milk or formula. Don't worry to much about it, everyone is different. I think its nice being able to share feeds as well us women need our beauty sleep hahaha :) hope all goes well x x x

you should try just breast feeding. your partner can bond in other ways, like bath times with him and baby.my little one loved cuddles in the bath with daddy and would often fall asleep on his chest in the bath xx

I read that you should have a month of breast feeding before expressing unless you are en gorged, but im sure you could try and if you manage to express early then go for it. I think they say to wait because you would need to be producing enough milk which you couldn't do straight away.
Hope that helps xx

I have a 5 month old boy and I have exclusively breastfed. I do express when I know I am going to be away so my boyfriend and feed our boy but you shouldn't do this until breastfeeding is established which is usually after a month or two. I would recommend MAM bottles because they are very similar to the breast and will not confuse your baby. Dad's can nurse baby skin to skin and bath baby in order to bond.
