Hi all, I am 21 weeks pregnant (with a boy!) and have started to think about my leave. I have a 3 year old and took my leave the day before he arrived as things were a struggle financially. But things are different this time. My husband has a new job with a pay rise which means i dont have to go back to work at all as he can cover mortgage & bills etc. If i tell my boss this will he stop my maternity pay. (it will be the smp as my work dont give extra). I dont know if im entitled to it because i have always worked or if i loose it because im not returning to work. So confused!

Hi Lyndsey, you can start your mat leave 11 weeks prior to your due date.... whilst you are on mat leave you also acrue your holidays... you have to give your employer your contractual notice whilst on mat leave.... therefore, i'd take the whole 39 weeks & give them your notice just before this ends... you also accure holiday whilst on mat leave so in your final pay they'd have to add this on too.
