Working when pregnant

I have a date agreed for maternity leve but do i have the right to go on maternity earlyer???

I am only 8 weeks 3 days away from my due date and have siad i would like to start my maternity leve on may 1st but I have a pretty physically demanding job as a waitress and have started to realise that I dont think I will be able to work up to may 1st as I am extreemly tired and worn out now and have the added bonus of not sleeping well so I was thinking of asking my employer if I could start my maternity 3 weeks or even just 2 weeks ahead of my previously set date? am I within my rights to do so? and can my employer refuse me this?

help would be much appreciated

Thank You

Hey!!

Not long now then :)..

When i was pregnant last year i was due 15th Sep, i actualy had Alanna on 27th Sep.

I was also going to work 2 weeks b4 my due date nd then take 2weeks holiday!

Well it dont always work to plan, i was massive hence the 10lb 1oz baby lol. I was having problems walking nd sleeping ect. I went too my human resources department at work informed them that i would like to leave 2weeks early and they cleared it wiv my boss. To b fair u have all sorts of rights at work being pregnant, speak to ur mw and ask what she advises, she may say get a sick note from ur doc 4 the last couple ov weeks?? Sorry im probs not much help!

Good luck.

Let us no how u get on.x

I work for the NHS and you can change the date of your agreed mat leave but have to give 4 weeks notice. I would suggest speaking to your HR department then you will know for sure

Thank you both for your comments they are very helpful :-) think I'll ring my hr department for advice and talk to my manager who is a very cool and reasonable man so fingers crossed all goes well xxx
