Working when pregnant

Finding work major difficult at 23 weeks

I work part time granted but I work 8-9 hour shifts and throughout the shift I am stood up as I work in a retail shop so there is absolutely no sitting down or leaning- they take it very seriously ! They have been good in the way that they have carried out a risk assesment on me and did so straight away when I told them about my pregnancy. However, other than the fact that I cannot use a kick stool or ladder (probably to ensure I do not sue them if i fall off!) they haven't really done anything else to ensure I have a safe time at work. I understand that I am the first employee within this particular company to be pregnant but surely I am entitled to more than an hour break within a full day shift? & because I am stood up at the till all day it particularly effects my lower back and stomach, but I am simply not permitted to sit down for even 10 minutes. I wouldn't normally winge but I simply don't want anything effecting my baby or her health, especially when it can be easily prevented!

hi, in your risk assessment, standing up for long periods should be there, the should look at every possible risk, and how they will deal with it, as you are pregnant, you should be able to sit down, you tell them that you can physically stand all day! if you dont think your risk assessment is adequate then speak to your manager, and if you need to citizens advice, go in with a list (to your manager) so write down things like, if you have morning sickness and what time, and things you think are a risk and she can deal with it from there, and get her to sign to say she has received and looked at it, if it is still not dealt with how you think is right, take a copy of your list to citizens advice, just take it easy, and sit if you need to ,she cannot stop you congratulations xx
