Weight gain

when did you start buying maternity clothes (e.g bra) and what did you start buying and from where?

where is a good place to buy affordable maternity clothes like trousers and bras, as i wont be using them for long so dont want to spend so much.

i realised my bra's are starting to leave marks around my sides, i am 20weeks with my first, my husband has also noticed my breasts have become bigger already, what type of bra would you recommend to buy that i can wear throughout pregnancy without having to keep buying bigger sized bras every month?

i bought my maternity clothes from mothercare. however, some of the tops i bought were just bigger sizes from places like tesco. you will still need to wear maternity clothes for several weeks after you have given birth too. i gave birth to my 2nd child 4 weeks ago and although i can get back into a couple of my normal pairs of trousers, i still wear my maternity trousers as they are much more comfortable at the moment.
as for bras, you need to have proper maternity bras - ones which do not have wires. however, you will need to keep buying bigger sizes throughout pregnancy. it is recommended that you get measured every 6 weeks as your breasts will continue to grow throughout. if you are going to breastfeed, you will need to be measured and buy nursing bras at 36 weeks. they are expensive, but it is important that you make sure you always wear the right size so as not to damage breast tissue.

i see on your title you asked when to start buying also. well that is individual as to when you need them. i was in maternity clothes at 10 weeks with my first baby and at 8 weeks with my second. i had to start wearing maternity bras at the same times (so 10 and 8 weeks respectively)

hi, i bought a pair of maternity jeans from next which werent necessarily over priced but dearer than other places, however they are really good quality and iv lived in them for the last like 20wks or so, they r the kind with the big belly band, iv been lucky with clothes really, because i only started to show at around 18 to 20wks and even then i only wore my maternity jeans coz i loved the look of them. im now 37wks and onli just had to put the belly band up, iv had it folded down all the rest of the time, also i havent needed to buy any new bras as my lil boobies have stayed little :( lol and the same with tops i wud just buy longer, larger sized regular tops i found they fitted better than maternity ones, but i agree with livis mummy, mothercare, next and asda did good clothes too xx

I am 16 weeks tomorrow and have needed maternity clothes for about 7 weeks..... re bras i have brought asda and tesco sports bras and wireless bras (not very atractive) especially to sleep in as boobs r very tender... (these only cost around 4 quid) once im closer to birth this is wen i will invest in a couple of good feeding bras..

u can but those bump bands (try again the supermarkets on line) then with some of your current clothes will still be wearable with the bands (i tend to wear slouch jeans so fit nicely under the bump and the bands keep bump warm lol)
tshirts buy a bigger size....
im finding maternity clothes expensive, and expense i cant have especially as will be redundant next week,,,,,,,

try and hang on for the sales on boxing day (next sale is brilliant especially on maternity)..

the only thing i need (and dont want to spend _70 on) is a good winter coat... but may have solved this am thinking of getting a cape/poncho that wayy it can b used next year....

Hoope this helps xx
