i have not been successful breastfeeding either of my two children (despite best efforts) so i dont have personal experience , but yes it is true but to what extent is going to be person dependent. you need to eat an extra 500 calories while breastfeeding to just to keep your milk supply at good and sufficient quantity and quality though. dont let weight loss sway you into choosing a way to feed though as if that is the only reason you choose to breastfeed and then it doesnt work out, you may end up resenting it.

I breast fed my daughter for nearly 10 months and lost all of my baby weight (altough this was 15 yrs ago and so was much younger and more active lol).

Im planning on breast feeding again but not for the weight loss x

I breastfed my baby for 12months and found it definitely helped me lose weight. I could tell the difference after a few months and found I was a bit lighter than before I even got pregnant which was a bonus. X

I am expecting my first child so I can't comment personally, but I have spoken to many other friends who all swear by breastfeeding to help lose weight (obviously not only for that reason!). I have also been told that breastfeeding can burn anything up to 800 calories a day!
Unless you have a health reason, I can't see why any woman would personally choose not to breast feed. Apart from the weight loss, you are also saving money & time on formula, sterilizers & bottles. x

All my weight came off in only a few weeks from breast feeding. I'm now a stone lighter from breast feeding, lo 14 1/2 weeks now. In a full day it takes 500 calories to feed your baby. :-) its hard at first but well worth it if ur able to xxx

I agree with Holheth, breastfeeding is hard but worth it. I can get into most of my pre pregnancy clothes again . Lo is 10 weeks old now. I also go out for a walk nearly everyday and think it is partly down to good genes as my mum lost all her weight too. I find some days I am constantly hungry and very tired though.

Hi. i found the weighloss aspect over-rated with my first, i bf for 9wks, and didn't loose extra weight, i was more hungry 7 thirsty, and just found that my weight stayed the same.

this time i plan to follow w.watchers for nursing mums, Im 37 so i'm expecting it to be no walk in the park.xx
