WEIGHT LOSS

hi all!
Ive reached 27weeks and still havnt gained any weight, my partner is concerned, and i have been wondering if this is normal. I lost 2 and a half stone during the first trimester through sickness. And a couple of pounds since!

At my last appointment with the midwife i told her about not gaining and she said that it can be normal not to gain.

As im a first time mum and dont know any other mums, i was wondering if anyone else has experienced no weight gain or a weight loss during pregnancy?

hello,
i think your very lucky to have got this far without putting on weight!! although i am very sorry to hear you suffered with sickness. with my first little girl i didn't gain much weight until towards the end of the pregnancy and even then i wasn't huge! i think it depends alot on your bodys make up and also the position as well as size of the baby and also the amount of fluid your carrying too. if at your 20 week scan to baby was shown to be growing well and gaining weight at a good speed i shouldn't worry too much! if the baby was smaller than it should be it would have be identified at the scan. if you continue to not gain weight the size of your bump will measure small for your dates and your midwife will be able to refer you to the hospital for a growth scan, just to check is you who's small and not the baby! but this isn't anything to worry about, i had a few extra growth scans with this one and shes growing well, its nice to have that reassurance! if you are still worried speak to your midwife again! wish you all the best. take care xx

Hi Emm,

This is my third baby,I am 21 weeks. I have lost just over a stone, as I was sick for the first 18 weeks, morning, noon and night.I don't seem to be putting that much on at the moment. I have had my 20 week scan and everything was OK. The baby is moving OK so I am quite happy at the moment. Good luck.

hi thankyou for the replys :)
my 20week scan revealed that Mini Minx (baby) is a week bigger than the dates, and i was also measured by the midwife and she said all was fine.
I believe now at 27weeks that Mini will have a growth spirt and that my appetite will be bigger, I'll keep you informed what happens!!

hi, im experiencing pretty much the same thing. im 31 weeks tomorrow and as of yet have not put on any weight. throughout the pregnancy ive lost between 1 half - 2 stone. slowly put it back on but haven't yet gone above my start weight! i loose a couple of lb's every week then maybe put 1 or 2 back on. i am really concerned about it but just keep gettin fobbed off! i'm ot worried for baby cuz she is fine and growing well but surely it can't be normal to be 31 weeks and not have put any weight on! i've had not 1 boubt of sickness so it isn't that and my appetite is fairly good. im confused! x

Morning all.

There's really no need to be jealous of someone's weight loss or gain as long as you and the baby are happy and healthy. Having a newborn will take the gained weight off in time, and I'd much prefer to look awful for nine months and produce a beautiful baby than look great and have a sickly baby... I lost four stone before getting pregnant and can see my body that I've worked so hard on slipping away from me but it has to be all about the "big picture" sometimes...
Good luck everyone.

I have just posted a comment on the weight gain bit :) I put on 6 stone in my first pregnancy mostly pringles, m&m's and white chocolate magnums (sadly very little of it was actual baby) I had no morning sickness at all. This time I am 14 weeks pregnant and have already lost over a stone and a half and its still coming off, but I haven't managed to keep much down for the last 8 weeks and am really paying now for the easy time I had last time. Every person and pregnancy is different, I know people that have put on loads and some who have literally put on the amount the baby weighed at birth and nothing else. As long as you are both healthy and happy I would just relax and enjoy it :) Pip xxx

Hi Emm, don't worry about the weight loss or gain, I'm sorry you where sick in the first trimester. I wasn't sick at all through my pregnancy and at the end when i gave birth i had lost a total of one and half stone (that is not including the baby, as i weighed less just before the birth than when i found out i was pregnant) I also mentioned this to my midwife as i was concerned that the baby wasn't growing, but she was unconcerned and said that if the measurements don't match up i.e. weeks=cm then they would start to look into it. But as long as you are eating healthy and feel fine just enjoy the pregnancy. I hope this helps. xx

i put on 4.5 stone first time, 1.5 stone 2nd time and half a stone last time. All down to not eating stupid amounts of chocolate and rubbish. I used first pregnancy as an excuse to eat for 2, unfortunately it was 2 elephants. Baby will take all the nutrients it wants and if it needs anything you will have cravings. dont worry about not gaining weight, just means you will not have loads to lose after baby.
