Weight gain

weight gain

I am 9 weeks pregnant now and have gone from a size 8 to a size 10-12 ( from 8st-9st4 now) and it is still going up! I am worried im going to become over-weight before the baby even starts growing, and adding to the weight itself. I have tried eating healthier foods like fruit, jacket potato etc instead of what I want. But I still feel very hungry and dont feel like the baby is getting enough. How can I reduce the weight without harming or starving the baby?

Hi, bless you for posting.
I am the same, have gained weight and baby only the size of a bean. A lot has gone on my chest but I am very hungry- not cravings but just need regular snacks. I have never had to worry about what I eat but am beginning to wonder now?

Hi Tracy. I put on a whole stone by the time I was 10 weeks! I'm now 20 weeks and its all evened out, I've only put on another 2lbs so don't worry... I found that the minute I discovered I was pregnant I ballooned in weight going from a happy size 12 up to a tight 14! But as I say, its all evened out now - the bloatedness has gone and I just look pregnant

Don't try to reduce your weight!! This is not a time for watching your weight too closely. As long as you eat a healthy balanced diet you'll be fine! I still have my curry every Friday night, a chocolate bar a day etc.. but I just make sure that my normal meals are quite balanced - carbs, protein and veg... Don't starve yourself sweetie...

I've been a manic weight watcher for the past 6 years after being overweight and losing nearly four stone. When I first got pregnant I was worried about putting on weight, unfortunately, it's inevitable. Good advice is to eat healthy as you are doing, but get plenty of it, increase your portion sizes, if it's healthy stuff the fat content will be low so won't be doing you any harm. Try not to worry (easy to say I know). Don't go hungry, that's your body telling you something, eat until you are full. Good luck, you sound slim anyway, so you have a good start! Louise xx

Hi. I was reading a mag the other day which said by now (21 wks) you may have put on upto 6lb. It made me laugh - I/ve put on at least 1 1/2 stone at the last weigh in (4 weeks ago). Everyone is different and there's more to worry about than putting a bit of weight on. It'll come off afterwards!

I initially lost weight at the beginning due to morning sickness but I've more than made up for it now. I've gone from 8st 9pds to 12st 5 at my last weigh in (I'm 31 weeks) I'm retaining a lot of fluid which I think accounts for a lot of this. I'm not too worried though cause I will loose it all afterwards, even if it takes a year

I'm 21 weeks and have put on about a stone but it seems to come in bursts rather than steadily and i'm not eating in bursts! I guess all that matters really is that you don't diet (tempting though it is when you feel like a bus). I try to cheer myself up about being such a fat cow by having a chocolate... ;-)
