Trying for a baby

TTC after taking Cerazette

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of coming off the Cerazette Pill. My DH and I are TTC our 3rd baby. I was taking Cerazette for about 6 months (a different POP before that for about 6 months) and stopped taking it approx 4 weeks ago. So far I have not had a period yet and I was wondering if anyone had any idea how long you should wait for your period? I have heard a few horror stories about people taking this pill for example those that conceive before they have had a period have miscarried and also people waiting 8 -12 weeks for a period. I was always very regular before I went on this pill but my periods stopped when I started taking it (I know this can happen). I also know that it is easier to find out about bad news than good so I am not taking any of this info too much to heart. I was just wondering how long is a reasonable amount of time to wait as we are really excited to start trying :)))

Hi, I haven't been on cerazette but was on the pill for years and came off in october 2006 when we started trying to conceive. We didn't start trying until jan 2007 though as I wanted to take folic acid for 12 weeks before ttc as it is recommended. It was also more important for me to do this as I have a history of spina bifida in the family, so I started taking folic acid (in pregnancy vitamins) and we used condoms for 3 months. As I remember I didn't have a proper period for about 6 weeks but I would say that if you wait 12 weeks and take folic acid then you should have definitely had a normal period by the time you start trying properly.
Good luck!!! xxx

i havent been on this pill either, but it can vary from person to person as to when you have a period after taking an oral contraceptive. it is just going to be a case of being patient to be honest. when i came off the pill my cycle never went back to how it was before i was on the pill - i went from a normal 28 day cycle prior to taking the pill to have a 4-7 week cycle after the pill.
good luck. x

HI, Thanks for the replies. You try so hard not to take things to heart but sometimes you just need a little bit of reassurance that things are still 'normal'. I have been taking Folic Acid for quite a while now as I take it as part of a multi-vitamin that I took through out my last pregnancy and kind of carried on with it. I guess I am just too keen to get started LOL. It took 5 years to conceive my first baby and when I came off the pill with my previous 2 I had a period very quickly. Thanks for the reassurance x

hiii, i wasnt going to sign up just yet but after reading your post i thought i had to...
just wanted you to know i was on cerazette for a few years then forgot a few pills came on, took a few more then ran out then came on again then a bank holiday and no time off work and with funny shifts i had to wait to get more pills, when i finally got more pills i couldnt take em til i came back on - that was early september... im 12 weeks pregnant today! im clearly no good with other contraception but thats fine lol. it seems as if i got pregnant immediatly! i dont know anything else about you but at the time i got pregnant i was under lots of stress i had lost my mum a month before so my head was somewhere else, hence the missed pills!! im 20 and my partners 27. as you said its easier to find out bad news so heres some good!! x

kym_possible thanks for that. And Congratulations xx I have read quite a few horror stories so its great to read a positive story. I am quite a bit older than you at 36 so it might just take a while longer for my body to get back to normal. I know I am definately not pregnant at the moment as my youngest son had chicken pox recently and the doctor advised me to do a pregnancy test to check but hopefully it will happen soon. It has only been 4 weeks give or take a day. x

Hi,
I was on cerazette before I conceived my newbie dd, who is now 3 weeks old! I started taking it in Feb 10 and finished taking it in sept 10. I had a lot of problems on this pill- reccurrent uti's, irregular bleeds and then no periods whatsoever also leading to me being referred to gynacology services (weirdly the gynacologist who delivered our daughter was my consultant when I had these problems last year!)
Anyway, I started ttc in november even though my periods were extremely irregular- had a chemical pregnancy in the december and then conceived dd in the january! So even though I had the cp in dec I conceived very quickly after that and went on to have a healthy and gorgeous baby girl!
Wishing you loads of luck and sending big sprinkles of baby dust!
Gem x

i was on this pill until end of july 2011. got my period around the usual time and fell pregnant at the end of october. unfortunately i lost the baby at 10 weeks but the assure me it was nothing to do with anything, just one of those things. also im 37 so close to your age. i did have a few weeks of severe pain coming off that pill but it settled. so good luck.

Hi I was on Cerazette for four years straight and suffered really bad from irregular bleeding even got hospitalised after losing two pints but only other option I had was to have an IUS fitted, I stopped taking the Cerazette aat end of March 2011 and do not know the specific date of conception but was a month maximum after I stopped that we got pregnant! It could happen anytime for you and I wouldnt worry with it only being 4 weeks since you stopped, I was excpecting it to take literally forever to the point where I didnt even really think about it happening at all I did however take Sanatogen pregnancy vitamin supplement as soon as I stopped the Cerazetter and I think I owe alot to this so maybe try doing that to help your body. Like I said dont worry with it being early after what happened with me I was I was amazed so just see what happens xxxx good luck xxxx
