That's quite a combination! There's actually a name for what you're experiencing – it's called PICA. It's the term used when a mother craves certain foods or unnatural substances such as coal. The cause is unknown but hormones and changes in metabolism are thought to be part of the reason. So no, you're not crazy, just pregnant!

Oh my god i thought i was the only one who craved sponges. I just popped over here from the mum forum. my sponges had to be the scourer one you know the yellow ones with the green on top. I kept it wrapped up and put away seprately from the other ones I used to soak them in water and suck the water out. Heaven!i still get an urge for them and Leah is 9 mths old! dont do it now though cos it made me sick last time. thank god im not the only one into sponges. best of luck and let me know how your getting on.

My husband laughed so much when I told him that i wanted to eat a sponge!! I've been buying sponges and hideing them from him, I love sucking the water out of them and them chewing them to a pulp!! So releived i.m not alone!!1

when my friend was pregnant she craved nail files she would suck them till all the sandy stuff had come of and when she ran out of them she even tried eating cat litter but it didnt help so you are not the only one with strange cravings

if this helps when i was pregnant with my first child all i wanted was dove soap!!!!
yep all i did was wash my hands then lather them up again only to go and watch tv happily licking all the soap bubbles off my fingers (and you think sponge is strange)

Me too - I'm 28 wks pregnant and I'm craving bath sponges - I'd been wondering why I hadn't really had any cravings just aversions then I bought a sponge the other day - isn't it weird it must be the fluid we need or something when you suck out the water. Oh well!!

I'm loving chalk, can't get enough of it. Keep buying our local stationers out of it!! But i was worried it might harm the baby so i'm starting to restrict it to only(!)1/2 box a day.

At least it's white chalk. When i went on holiday we could only find coloured chalk so my mouth, teeth & tongue were shades of blue, pink etc

i've been cravin sponges to i luv the texturse of it on my tongue =S.....and we are havin out bathroom done and i crav the plaster while in im the bath i pick it off maybe its cuz its sandy or gritty....im not sure but its nice lol

i am 35 wks pregnant and i crave sponges badly!! every time i go into the bathroom its like the sponge is calling out to me! sometimes i have a chew when i'm not in the shower but my showers are now super long since i cannot put the sponge down!! wierd isn't in but glad to no i am not alone!!

this is my third pregnancy and i have never had a craving before , the only thing im in to at the moment is ..........clean wet washing , cant get enough of the smell and the texture . very strange things us woman do !!!
