Travelling during pregnancyis it safe to fly at 28 weeks pregnant?
Hi, we would like to go on holiday before baby comes but as im a teacher i can only go in summer hols. Even though we'll be going the first week of hols, i'll be 28 weeks. Is this safe to fly? What are peoples thoughts on this?
Thanks xx
i have never flown as we dont have abroad holidays due to our business, but i know that if your pregnancy is uncomplicated then you can fly up to 36 weeks BUT some airlines will not allow you to fly from 28 weeks pregnant due to the risk of premature labour. you will of course also need to consider how far pregnant you'll be on the return trip.
if you are going to, then make sure you check with the airline directly. sometimes they will let you go with a letter from your doctor.
there are also certain things you should do if you do fly when pregnant to reduce the risk of a deep vein thrombosis such as wearing support stockings.
the best thing would be to get advice from your midwife.
