Travelling during pregnancyWorried about flying
Im 15 weeks pregnant and am due to go on holiday soon. It's only a short haul flight, but im quite worried about any risks. I've read that pregnant women should wear flight socks, but i was told not to bother with them because the flight isn't long! Could anyone help me to ease my mind about this or have any suggestions with anything i could do?
Hi There,
I flew to Dubai when I was pregnant with my son, I was 20 weeks at the time. I mentioned it to the Midwife, and she said it would be fine at this stage, and actually the best time to go during the second trimester. That was about a 6/7 hour flight. The only thing I found was that I became pretty swollen (Feet/Ankels) so try to walk around as much as you can on the plane, and drink plenty of water. Wear some comfy clothes. I flew again at 6months pregnant, only to Edinburgh and back for a work thing, and again I was perfectly fine. Oh lots of leg excercise when sitting down too. But if only short haul you should be ok, any concerns just check with your Midwfife. My son was born perfectly ok, and I know lots of women who fly even up to about 8months! I did find long haul a bit uncomfortable, and tiring. But Im sure you will be fine. Enjoy!

when i was 13 weeks, and i didn't wear the flight stockings. however i did walk around a lot, and drunk plenty of water. also, when i was sat down, i would roll a water bottle along the floor with my feet.
hope this helps.

i think they recommend you dont fly for the first 3 months so you should be ok. no need for socks lol. i went on holiday when i was 32 weeks pregnant to spain and hadno problems
im due to go to france in september and i will be 31/32 weeks pregnant, dya think that is safe... i mean its not exactly a long flight from leeds to france is it.... x
Hi,
I wonder if someone can help me please. I am 10 weeks gone and we are thinking of getting a late deal to go on holiday in a couple of weeks and we are thinking of going long haul. I just wanted to know if this is safe as we are a bit worried about it?
Thank you ;0)
My family live in Greece and I went over to see them when I was about 14 weeks, was there for a month and flew back at 17ish weeks and thats a 4 hour flight (I'm not even going to mention the car journey either end of it haha) I was fine as long as I could get up and move around a little (ask for an isle seat) also if you tell the people at check in that your pregnant most companies go out of their way to accommodate you.
For everyone else who is over 27 weeks pregnant or will be flying when you are around then you need to tell your airline when you book the tickets how far along you are because different airlines have different rules about stages of pregnancy and flying. They may ask you for a letter from your doctor/midwife to say that you are able to fly (even those short hall ones), just remember it's to cover their own butts in case something happens to you but I really don't think you need to worry too much. Long as you check with your midwife and the airline you should be fine right up to about 35 weeks then some airlines won't take you.
I only know because living in two countries at once when your pregnant is a real pain in the neck (or ankles!) so I've had to look into it.
Hope that helps x
