I'm only 15 weeks pregnant, but I have to travel 120 miles to work & back, 3 days a weeks & I'm worried that this may get too much later on. The journey takes me about 1.5 hours - I live near Kettering & work in Nottingham. I can work from home, but my employers only let me do 2 days a week. If travelling becomes too much for me, can I make them reconsider?
Your employers have to do a risk assessment on you and i'm sure if the job you are doing is unsafe for you or baby they have to find you something else to do or you go on some sort of leave with full pay. I may have read it wrong and i'm not 100% sure so i'd double check, go to CAB or google maternity rights.
thanks dozybird - I'm going to go to the CAB as my employers have also now started on about my holiday entitlements as well. They've told me I can only add a maximum of 14 days to the start of my maternity leave.
Will let you know the outcome - watch this space!
I've asked again for a Risk Assessment - they can see what I'm at risk from!!
So I've given them a list to look through!
Oh my god work places can be crap when dealing with pregnant women, it really shocks me in this day and age. My workplace didn't have a clue until i visited the direct.gov website and got a downloadable leaflet with both parties responsiblities outlined on it. It really is worth visiting as once i gave them that they realised what they had to do and were great from there on. Good Luck
