Scans!

Hey when did everyone have their first scan? I've heard that you are meant to have one at 12 weeks. im 11 weeks now and i have my first antenatal appointment next week but apparently i wont be having a scan as the hospital is small and doesnt have the facilities.
im realy annoyed. The hospital im down to give birth at has the facilities but for some reason i have to have my 1st appointment at my local hospital which doesnt.
I'm generally a worrier, so i really want a scan to put my mind at ease.
Has anyone else had this problem? or is it normal to have later scans in certain areas?

it depends on your area what the procedure is, the 12 week scan is usually for dating purpose, as a bonus they check everything else.
then the next one is 20 weeks this is to check growth, organs etc.
you can contact your hospital and let them know you are not happy not having the scan, does the people around the bigger hospital get the 12week scan as routine?
the government say that 12 and 20 weeks should be routine scans, but different areas have different polices.
also if you have pain or bleeding they should scan you!
if they dont entertain you, you can pay privately for this scan, there is also progress packages which you go back at intervals and get to see your baby grow. dont do thid through bupa as they are overpriced. my friend paid £245 for 20 week scan, i went for a 3/4D package and got all the usual scan stuff plus pictures and dvd for £135.
bounty usually send out an offer for a place near your area.
hope this helps.

I've got an appointment at my hospital in 2 weeks (when I'll be 12 weeks gone), but they didn't mention anything about a scan! They said it could take up to 3 hours filling out forms and getting family history etc. Do you think they'll just do the scan anyway?
