Scans & testsGrowth Scans
Hi my name is Jayne, just looking for advice from anyone who has had similar issues.
I am 38 weeks and on my last midwife appt they discovered that i had not grown, in fact i was measuring 32 cm so i was booked in for a growth scan 2 days later. They said that head and stomach circumference was fine, heartbeat and blood flow through the cord was good and fluid around baby and placenta was fine, however babys femur length was measuring below average, they measured humerous aswell and this is the same, i was told that this is probably due to the fact that myself and my partner are petite as all scans and measurements were fine till this point. However today i had a phonecall to say that the consultant wanted to do another growth scan on 31/7/07 (my due date) but not to worry. I am so confused and finding it really difficult not to worry about this. Has anyone got any advice!
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that you're not on your own!
I'm 37 weeks and only measuring at 32wks - had to go for a growth scan last friday and they said blood flow etc was fine - could measure his head due to the position but said that his thigh and waist measurements were a little smaller than average.
I'd try not to worry too much, if the blood flow was ok then your little one is being fed well - they probably just want to keep an eye on things!
Good luck, and feel free to keep in touch!

Have been to see consultant now who said there was no point doing another scan as they wouldnt be able to do anything with information until baby was born so it wouldnt really achieve anything, they still think its short femur length is genetic but have also mentioned dwarfism (which as you can imagine not great news) we will just have to wait and see, they offered me induction on my due date but i declined as id prefer to go into labour naturally
im 17 with my first child and i found out yesterday i had to go for a growth scan this friday im really scared as i dont know anything about it or what it means any advice ?
i had a growth scan at 20 weeks and 28 weeks, is just some hospitals policies.. it is literally just to check your baby is growing with the dates corectly ... its also another chance to see ur wee one on the screen :-)
Hi, I'm 35 weeks and am measuring 30cm - was also 30cm at last antinatal 3 weeks ago. My Midwife says if I've not grown by my next antinatal in 2 weeks I'l be referred for a scan. She has said its nothing to worry about as I'm tall (5' 10") and there's a few weeks of major growth to go but can't help but worry. Has anyone who's tall had this??
hi
i'm 36+4 weeks and had growth scan. im measuring at 40cm now which is a little on the large side also been told baby weighs about 8 1/2 lbs. they've booked another scan for 2 weeks time n say they wont let it go past my due date (27th april) since baby could get up to 10lbs by then. does anyone have any advice or been through the same sort of thing as i'm scared they'll induce me and could do with someone to talk to.
ide im measuring loads bigger but they think we can push big babies out as some size 8 woman have 12lbers
Hi, i had 2 growth scans during my pregnancy as i had gestational diabetes and the sonographer told me that the scans can give inaccurate measurements by up to as much as 20%. They are trying to measure a moving baby through several layers of skin then fat and muscle tissue, not to mention all the amniotic fluid that booboo is swimming around in so its no wonder they cant be totally accurate. They told me at 36wks that booboo weighed 7lb 2 and too expect her to weigh AT LEAST 9lb 7 at birth,......so after 4 weeks of flapping about having to squeeze out a nine and a half pounder my day finally came and she weighed 7lb 8. Totally inaccurate and caused unnecessary flapping!!!! good luck with your births and try not to worry xxx
hiya everyone, having growth scans are all for caution, cos if they dont do these scans and somethings wrong when babies born they dont want sueing.
with my 2nd pregnancy my bump was small, but i wasnt worried one bit cos i knew i was getting bigger each week and putting weight on each week, but then at 30 wks i was only measureing 27cm so they said i needed a growth scan, i worried myself to death for 2wks until the scan, then everything was fine, they said my baby would be on the small side, he was 6lb 4oz, he was perfectly healthy.
so i suppose you just have to go along with it cos its all for the sake of your baby, 9 times out of 10 things are fine.
i had a friend who had to have scans every 2wks cos they said she wasnt growing enough, and also mentioned the baby could have dwarfism, he was born full term at 4lb 8oz, perfectly normal just a bit small.
so dont worry yourselves too much, as long as your bump is growing, your putting weight on and you feel baby moving every day, then you'll be ok
take care everyone xxx
I am diabetic so had a few growth scans over the last few months. Babies of diabetics can grow too big if diabetic control is not spot-on but so far baby is ideal. I love these growth scans, it makes me feel closer to my baby each time.
