hi,me too im 40 and i have a blood disorder but because of my age the results were bound to come back high im told,at 12 weeks the scan lady can tell around 95%if theres something wrong,i was told at 12 weeks he was fine and at 20 weeks they went into depth and he was found to be perfectly normal as far as they could see....at 12 weeks a baby that has downs will have a thicker neck more fluid and webbed hands feet in most cases.I didnt have the amnio either in fear of losing my baby,i know the risk is only so many in a hundred but i didnt want to be that one,lots of luck and take care,all should be fine,i worried so much but its all turned ok,my sister has just had a lil boy at 43 and hes just fine too,theres older ladies than us that have kids

Are you talking about the nunchal scan?
I think you may have to go private for it and its done earlier than an amnio, like 12-16 weeks, and you know then and there the result.

yes its a scan but u can only have it done between 11-13 weeks x

Hi there, I'm 37 and 13 weeks pregnant. I went for a private nuchal scan this week as I didn't want to risk the amnio test. It's a really simple process and very reassuring. The scan measures the fluid on the baby's neck as well as looking at the nasal bone. They then combine the results with your blood test results. I'd recommend it to anyone 'our age'! It's expensive but worth every penny. Good luck! xxx

they also do the dating scan with this scan too, think the cost varies but think it's around _140 in total. x
