Relationships during pregnancyworried about my step son
Hi ladies. Recently my stepson who's 6 has become extreamly insecure. He stays with my hubbie and me every other weekend and then during holidays. We are all very close and he's a little super star. Recently when we've been taking him home he hasn't wanted to go, especially if we have to drop him off with his grandmother, he gets very clingy to both daddy and me, and it's so upsetting. In recent months his time with is mum has been limited as she's working shifts, going out with her friends or spending time with her new boyfriend. She is also drinking rather a lot too. I am not a judgemental person and I agree that we all need a social life, but feel it's taking it's toll on the LO. I'm also worried that with us being pregnant this is also having an effect, but he seems so happy when he is here and fairly relaxed. He's even mentioned living with us but then turned round and said 'ooops mummy says we're not to talk about that'!
Hubby and me are involving him with most things with the baby, and he kisses my belly and tries to feel for movement. We've been encouraging him to help us with the nursery and other bits for the baby, but also giving him some responsibility too.
Have any of you been through anything like this? I'm just looking for a little bit of advice I suppose!
Well it sounds like you are both doing everything right. I am in a similar situation.
My OH has a little girl age 7 who lives with her mam and half brother (by another man).
She has taken to me really well and is quite happy about the baby, even though it is 'another boy' LOL
She cries like crazy when my OH takes her home and clings to him it's heartbreaking. I would love to have her with us all the time.
It's doubtful ihi behaviour is about the new baby, he probably loves spending so much time with you and doesn't want to go back to his mam where he doesn't get as much attention.
I know my OH's little one has to do so much around the house and for her other brother she's treated like a nurse maid! That's why she's like being with us, we treat her like a little girl.
I know it doesn't help much, but just keep doing what you are doing and when he is older he might make the decision to live with you.
That's what I'm hoping for x x x
i dont know if ot helps but i remember when i was little and when i went to my dads i didnt want to go back to mums, and when i was with my mum i didnt want to go to my dads. i was 5 when they spilt iup, and at that time the courts sent someone to ask me (my brother was to litttle at 3 yrs) who i wanted to live with. neither parents were there when i was asked but when i was with my mum, i told the courts i wanted to live with my mum, but when i was at my dads and they asked me i told them i wanted to livei with my dad...... personally i think the courts were wrong to ask me that at 5 yrs old anyway!!.
i think it sounds like your doing things right making sure he is fully involved that way he wont feel pushed out, and its nice to hear that he gets on well with you... being a step mum is hard (my step daughters are 12yrs and 13 yrs and although my OH thinks they like me. i still get the feeling they think im the reason why their mum and dad seperated (i met my OH 4 yrs after the divorce) or that i have stopped them getting back together.... that siad they have said to their mum that they want to move to endland and live with us (they live in ireland) but i know this is just to wind mum up.
U may find that as ur LO gets older he will make a decision to move in with u. xx
Thank you ladies! It is so so hard. I hate seeing him so upset and so clingy to us. He's fab when he's with us and seems so happy and well behaved!
His teacher asked for his mum to phone her yesterday, and it turns out his behaviour in school has deteriorated. He's not concentrating in school and distracting other pupils in class, he's not being very nice to other pupils either and he's got to have a behavioural assessment! That's totally not him and now I'm really concerned for him! Something is really effecting him now.
