pubic bone and lower back pain

hi everyone - i'm new to this site. I am 20 weeks pregnant - baby due Christmas Day. I have in the last couple of weeks developed terrible pain in my pubic bone and lower back - its worse when I'm lying down and go to get up. Does anyone else have this and know what it is?

Hiya. I've just started having the same thing! I'm 23 weeks pregnant (due 22nd Nov). When I've been lying down at night & get up in the morning (or for a mid-might toilet trip!) I almost feel as if the baby has dropped all it's weight onto my pubic bone.

Not sure what it is, but I've got an appointment with my midwife tomorrow & will mention it to her. If she gives me more details, I'll be back on here & let you know!!

Glad it's not just me - I thought I was going mad!

Thank you would be interested to know what your midwife says. I am curently residing out of the country, returning end of September so am having my care in a private Turkish hospital. Whilst the care is good I'm not sure they will know about this and if they do be sympathetic to my symptoms.

My sleep has become very disturbed now because when I move i'm in excruciating pain also in my hip joint and cocyx. The joys of being pregnant hey.

Hi, I am 25 weeks pregnant and have just had my scheduled midwife visit and had very bad pelvic pain for a good few days, had it on and off before but never continuous pain like now and was made worse when i wanted to the loo, Midwife said it could be many things from lifting heavy stuff etc, we narrowed it down to me walking around the mall saturday for a few hours wearing flip flops, I did notice that my legs were killing me and the pain in my pelvis startede to hurt around then (also back ached), plus i was carrying shopping, have really been resting up snce and must admit pain is going away, so have to be more careful now and stay away from flip flops and carrying bags etc ! Midwife also said to roll onto side before getting out of bed etc, all these things have really helped. Hope you both feel better soon xx

hi hun, the pain you're feeling is called SPD, i had it too from about 20 weeks! it got worse untill near the end i could hardly walk. there are different severities of this condition though and mine was pretty severe, hopefully yours won't get much worse! the good news is that mine nearly dissapered immediately after my baby was born, after a couple of weeks you wouldn't have known i'd ever had it. it's caused by a hormone called relaxin, some people release this hormone too early in their pregnancy which means the pelvis loosens off too much, hence the pain! the advise miracle37 gave you is pretty much what i was told to do, just take it easy because take it from me doing too much wil make it so much worse and once it gets worse it won't get better till your babys born! hope this was helpful sweetie! take it easy. xxxxx

HI ladies just to say don't worry we all hurt! I am pregnant with 3rd child only 10 weeks and having pain. Rest is best but if pain is to bad go see midwife I did with second pregnancy they said it was SPD and hospital gave me a support which helped my back & lifted my bump which made life so less painful. Its exactley right wot debdeb27 said the pain goes almost immediatley after birth. I am hoping I dont get it again tho!! Good luck

I've been to see my midwife today & she told me it's nothing to worry about - it just means that my pelvis is expanding, which is quite normal. Like others here have already suggested, the midwife told me to "roll out" of bed in the morning instead of trying to sit up. She also advised to stand up slowly & no to rush thing & if the pain was too bad, then rest was the best thing.

HI DEBDEB27 IS RIGHT IT CERTAINLY SOUNDS LIKE SPD. I HAD IT WITH MY 1ST IT STARTED AT 24 WEEKS. MY MIDWIFE SENT ME FOR PHYSIO BUT NOT UNTIL I WAS 36 WEEKS BUT THEY GAVE ME A BELT TO WEAR WHICH DID HELP. THE PAIN HAD DISSAPPEARED TOTALLY BY THE TIME I LEFT THE HOSPITAL THANK GOD. BUT BEST THING IS REST I'D SAY. I'M 21 WEEKS PREG NOW AND JUST HOPIG IT DOESN'T COME BACK THIS TIME. ANYONE KNOW IF ITS LIKELY T RE-OCCUR?

hi i'm suffering really bad with pubic bone pain i'm 28wks due 6thy nov and some mornings i cant stand,. it's absolutley agonising! it doesnt help that i have two other children and its the school holidays! any advice??

message to lewanks, i can imagine your pain and having other kids to cope with is not easy so my advise would be nag your midwife, its not fair for you or kids to suffer, she may advise physio? good luck you haven't got long to go!!
As for my other previous post I am properly sulking after my booking in appointment with midwife. She informed me as I had SPD previously I will more than likely get it sooner this time :-( which could explain my pain but I have ages to go as only 12 weeks, got scan 2morrow............

Aww hun i hope this gets better for you soon, i had that when i was pregnant but those pains didnt start til i was around 30wks! So i cant imagine starting with them 10wks earlier. It was hard work & to walk everywhere seemed a struggle but i managed it by taking small steps and things like my fiance would hold my arm to take the weight when i got out of the bath etc. Hope your getting plenty of rest for it :) xx
