Pregnancy pains & problemsShort of breath??
Hi im 28+ 6 and yesterday when i woke up my heart was quite fast and found that everytime i would take a breath in it felt like i wasnt getting enough oxygen and chest felt a bit tight. i called the midwife as i was feeling weak with it and she told me to go on in to check the baby. She said that the baby was ok but there were some points when she was testing that he wasnt getting the right amount of oxygen but not to bad that i need to worry. she then sent me to my gp to check me out who said that if it gets worse to go back.
Today i have had it again but the same not any worse and was just wondering if anyone has/had this?
Hi, as the baby grows it can push everything upwards and make you very short of breath, and palpitations are common in pregnancy too. I have an irregular heartbeat anyway but it got a lot worse in my last pregnancy and even when I was lying on the sofa my heart would be racing, my consultant sent me for a 24 hour ecg where they put the monitor on you and send you home and you go back the next day to have it removed and get the results a couple of weeks later. All was fine for me but it might be worth asking if it continues. Anaemia can also cause shortness of breath so maybe get your iron levels checked again too. I would keep your gp and midwife informed though, I'm sure its just normal pregnancy niggles but always better to be cautious and get things checked out just in case :-))xx
Hi bethnell, i had identical symptoms to you at 28 weeks, this is the time you have to have bloods taken by mv. also diabetic checks, the baby will now start to grow rapidly . Im now 31 weeks and find that i have to rest alot arter shor intervals of housework and i dare not go shopping. I was just reading on the C&G pregnancy week by week calender that the uterus is very big now. so just like buffy says making everthing push upwords and adding pressure.
Put ya feet up and be sure to rest as much as poss. xx
Hi i had this with my last pregnancy and with this one at 18 weeks it has started. I have asthma so i knew it would probably get worse. I think what you are describing is a little panic attack as i get these if i start to feel getting air is a problem. My heart pounds so loudly, i get breathless and dizzy and almost gasp. Hormones can play a part in this and it isnt that you are worrying about anything mine just seem to come on. I really have to focus to get back to normal but have to say chanting something over and over whilst holding onto an object calms me quicker, the slower i start to chant the more my breath comes back to me. It takes your mind off the panic. I am going to my gp this week too as i may need more asthma help. Maybe ask to be checked for asthma too. good luck x
Hi thanks for all your replys. My midwife sent me to RUH who tested me for blood clots as they are common in pregnancy. I had scan on legs, an xray on lungs and scan on my lungs and all came back clear. They said its nothing to worry about it is just the baby pushing upwards. Feel alot better about it and just gives me an excuse now to make other half do all the housework :)
