Pregnancy blues

Referred to a Psychologist

Hi Everyone,

I'm 24 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I've had a few complications so far. The baby is laying akwardly which is causing my uterus to press on my bowels etc and generally causing discomfort and an upset stomach. I'm having huge trouble sleeping too so that doesn't help. After a few visits to the doctor and midwife, i've been referred to a psychologist with depression. I'm feeling very useless at the moment and just don't know what to do.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been through similar to me and whether it's common during pregnancy?

Thanks,

Tash x

Bless you Tash! I'm nearly 29 weeks now and I have a history of depression, I was on antidepressants when I fell pregnant but stopped as soon as I found out. This is my first pregnancy and I've not been 100% through the whole thing. I've had bad morning sickness from week 5, have no appetite and have lost over 2 and a half stone so far. My mood is very up and down, but my midwife has been good and they have said that if I feel I just need a chat to go and see them which is good. I tend to have good weeks and bad weeks, this week has been a good week until today and I am feeling very low. I think pregnancy hormones have a big role in it too!
Try keep your chin up, and think that in just a few weeks it will all be worth it and you'll have yout little baby! That's what I keep telling myself! xxx

Hey
it sounds like ur really having a time of it! i had depression with my second pregnancy (my little girl is now 7 weeks) and altho i was never referred to a psychologist i think its more common than people realise u have to think of all the hormones flying around ur body and everything else u have to contend with as well. and remember, sleep deprivation is a form of torture in some countries!!!

try not to be too hard on urself, pregnancy is hard and the fact that ur seeing someone u cantalk to is great because at least ur doing something about it!

good luck i hope things pick up for u xx

Thanks both, I feel a bit better knowing that I'm not the only one who's having difficulties. I'm just struggling at the moment, i'm back in work today as i've been off for a week and half and i'm exhausted already. I'm seeing the midwife on monday for my 25 week appointment so i think i'll have a good chat with her too.

Congratulations on the birth of you little girl sweetmummy! Not long left for you now qanngoth!

xx

Hello, Im like sweetiemummy and havent been referred but I do think it is very common. I stood in the shower last night and had a big cry. I couldnt help but think about all the bad things that have happened to me but I think hormones can just play havoc on you. Hope the psychologist can help. I always find when feeling low that writing how i feel and having a good cry can make me feel better, not sure if this will help xx

Hi Tash so sorry you having a hard time, its good that you been referred you will have someone to talk to and in doing that you will feel better because you letting your feelings out. I have history of depression, my pregnancy went perfect but following the birth and alot of complications thereafter in hospital and the death of my uncle 12hr after I gave birth within a week of my Charlie being born I am back on anti-depressants. There should be no shame attached to suffering from depression because so many more people than you realise suffer from it so please dont feel like you are alone or the only one. Talking really really does help bottling your emotions up only makes it worse and even if you just write it down you will feel better. Hope this helps and that you start to feel better

Hi both, thank you so much for your replies. I'm still waiting for my appointment to come through but i've just had my 25 week check up with the midwife and everything is fine so thats a load off my mind. Midwife's keeping a close eye on me over the next few weeks as baby still hasnt moved much so she's still pressing on my hips etc , being looked after really well. xx
