Well i've heard that it's more effective if your baby is laying back to back with your spine, though how true i don't know. I used a tens machine, for the early part ( was in early labour for 2 days, before going into established labour), but i found it wasn't that great, also i couldn't seem to keep the lower pads on my back properly, which is proberly why i didn't find it all that effective, don't know if i'd bother again if we have another baby xxxxxx

I used a tens machine and that was all during the labour of my first kid (a grand total of 5 hours start to finish) It was OK but you have to remember to press the button when you want it to work, and then it felt like the tingly feeling you get if you lick a battery. Yes, you do abandon them or throw them up the wall lol, but thats all I used in my first one. And by the time I was ready to throw it out the window it was time to push and nothing can take the crowning pain away haha.ooyah, nippy lol

I had a tens machine and found it pretty useless. It does distract you a bit in the early stages cause its something to fiddle with but I was in labour for 48 hours start to finish and after a while your body doesn't even feel it. I was told by the midwife to stop using it and then start again a bit later so it would be more effective, although I still found it useless after doing that. I wouldn't bother with one again.

I used a TENS machine and found it really effective although I think that its effectiveness is partly psychological (if you think it will work it helps....) I have to admit that I did also have a shot of pethidine when the contractions got very intense but this was partly due to having taken off the TENS to have a bath when the contractions had slowed at which point they got very intense very quicky - TENS needs to be on as the pain increases so that the endorpines can build up. The pethidine had worn off before I had to start pushing and I only used TENS for a ventouse delivery and found it to be very effective - I think the only thing that would have killed the pain completely would have been an epidural and I didn't want one (was too late at that point anyway!)

I used a TENS machine and thought it was fantastic I didnt use any drugs and hated the gas and air it was TENS all the way and I have to say even the midwifes thought I had a very high pain threshold as I and the baby were so child throughout the labour. I even considered having another baby during contractions. It really worked for me but it may not be everyones cup of tea!

I used a tens machine for the birth of my 2 children. I found it really good in the early stages and then went for the natural option of nothing towaqrds the end. Apart from standing and swinging your hips in a circle much to everyone's amusement.

My 3rd is due in 3 weeks and have hired a tens machine again for this birth.
