Hiya,
The antenatal classes in my area are completely booked up, which if I'm honest isn't much of a worry as I was never too keen on going. I'm due on Nov 17th but am wondering if anyone would strongly advise finding a class that could take me (as in, do they really help you that much!?)
Abbie
I haven'e been to any classes and im getting induced next week. Personally myself i cant see how they will help as i think that only you will know how to cope with your body when the time comes and it should come naturally without going to classes to know how to breathe. My friend is going on thursday so i will ask her and see what she says and get back to you x
I had similar thoughts on the matter but my birth partner (mum) wanted to pay for some classes so she could feel confident about what to expect and ways she can help. When I tried to get a class they were booked out but I booked a one on one appointment with a midwife who is familiar with the birth centre I intend to give birth at. It was really good. I am also booked in for some fee ones provided through the NHS (ask your midwife) but I don't think I'll need them now. In conclusion, you don't need to attend a class, there are no answers to be given, just information and advice on ways to look at the process that may help you cope better when the time comes. I am glad I booked a 'class' because every conversation you have about your preferences and the process the more things fall into place. For example, I now have a clearer idea of what methods of pain relief and comfort I am going to use...
I wouldnt worry to much iv been to all mine and even though they help wth tips and any concerns you many have you can always ask your midwife if you have any doubt, plus us cowad gate mummies to be are here too, so dont worry too much! Good luck! x
To be honest i wasn't really reassured after any of my anti natel classes, so i wouldn't worry to much to be honest xxx
hiya i had the same prob as you they gave me a date the week my baby was due and i had her 3 weeks early!i really wanted 2 go 2 them 2,my best friend went 2 hers and said that they wernt much cop,i went 2 aquq natal at my local pool and i found that really good,i had a great midwife when i gave birth who talked me through everything, take care jo x
hi, during my pregnancy i visited a antenatal class which was organised by Flying Start and the class was completely free. I would look up on the net if you have any Flying Start facilities in your area. They are excellent
I'm on my third pregnancy and I went to an ante-natal class on my first but only a couple of times - to be honest I found it quite patronising, but I think it very much depends on where you live and what you want to find out. It reminded me a bit of a course where you always have to wait for one to catch up which leaves the rest of you twiddling your thumbs. I did however go to breast feeding classes with my second, which I must say proved very informative. I think if you can find a good antenatal class it might be helpful to go, even just to learn about breathing.
Hi
Im 38wks with my 1st and found the classes quite useful. It was only 3, 1hour classes and the midwife talked about pain relief and labour signs, just generally what to expect and what happens after.
Prior to this I was pretty clueless so they were really helpful for me.
I never went to any. When I had my first my mum was there (well, it was in her house lol) and she's a retired midwife. She told me what to do when I needed to do it and TBH your body takes over anyway.
im having my third child and have never been to one hun . your midwiffe will tell you everything you need to know and theres plenty of books out there witch tell you everything hun so dont worry .
good luck xxx
