Hiya

i was tested at 12 weeks for this and it came up positive. I was so upset as I had no idea what it was or how I caught it but of course some of us are carriers so to speak and nothing we can do about it.

I was given antibiotics 3 times but of course iif you are a carrier then you will reinfect yourself.

I was really nervous when I found out that I was a carrier but have been told that when I go into labour that I will be given antibiotics over a 4 hour period. Ive been told that the minute labour starts that I need to go to hospital and cant wait at home - obviously for the drip to be put in.

if you look at www.gbss.org.uk it will give you more info.

Its scary but very very common and on the plus side you know you carry it where some women dont get tested during pregnancy because of the area they live in and only know they have it when the baby becomes poorly.

Hiya, with my first baby i was bleeding at 6 months and was tested then, the results were that i had it an all they had to do was give me antibiotics as i was delivering. Paige was fine, i had to stay in hospital for 3 days after the birth just to check the baby. This time round they arnt going to test me but will just give me antibiotics during delivery just to be safe! Good luck x

Hi I had this with my daughter (now 2 and a half) What the people said above applies I to would recommend you look at the website suggested its really good and helpful. One bit of advice I would give is to make sure you stress to the midwives that you have strep b, as I was induced and the midwives hadnt read my notes and i got to 7cm before they realised bout the anti biotics and at the time I was not really up on the info bout strep b and didnt realise you needed anti biotics at the onset of labour. I amd now 36weeks pregnant with my second child and have been told that I will be treated as if I dont have strep b so I have had a private test to see if I am carrying it at this time, just something to bare in mind ifor anyone during a second pregnancy. Hope this helps x

hiya im a carrier of gbs and didnt know until after i had my baby i was packing to go home when the doctor told me.we had to stay in and my baby was put on iv antibiotics for 48 hours, the longest 48 hours of my life, luckly she was ok,i had her at 37 weeks when my waters broke and the hospital took a swab,i had asked my midwife prev about this but dont think she knew alot about gbs and i had no idea i could pay to get tested,my daughter is 29 weeks old now and is healthy and perfect, try not to worry about it whilst i was on the maternity ward i was 1 of four women who were in the same boat,so its very common i want another baby so im glad i know about it now then i can have the antibiotics hopefully,as i was only in labour 3 hours with my baby my doctor thinks it would be quicker with my next one!!so fingers crossed i would get at least 4 hours of the antibiotics.to lynette i have been told the opposite by my doctor,he said its something i will always have and wouldnt need to be tested again also they have big stickers with gbs to put on your notes so every knows, looking back know i wish i would of known but i wouldnt of got the test results back in time anyway as my baby was prem good luck to all you mums to be enjoy meeting your new babies take care jo x

hi to all you gbs girlies out there, i found out that i had strep b when i ask to be swabbed after i miscarried at 7/8 weeks, i just wanted to check all was well down below a day later i had a phone call from my docs can u pick up some antibiotics u have strep b that was it, now im 9 week 3 days preggers and still none the wiser, have been informed that if i dont gone into labour b4, i will be swabbed at 37 weeks to check if it is present if so then as soon as i go into labour then i have to go in and go onto a drip, which not amused by due to the fact i like being mobile during labour im a walker and a rocker. so yeah hope that helps, fingers crossed for easy (ish) labours and healthy bundles of joy.
