could I still be pregnant? What do I do next

I found out I was pregnant at 4weeks plus 3 and had an appointment made for my 12week scan, bloods etc. This was my 2nd pregnancy, I have a boy who is 11 months and had a very straight forward pregnancy. At 5+5 I started to bleed and didn't know what to do so I phoned the midwife who read me the protocol from the wall which said I should do a pregnancy test in 7-10 days or phone back if I'm in pain. My bleeding is just like a period I have had it for 4 days now, not too heavy and is bright red, I haven't had any pain (have had worse period pains) I did however pass some tissue which I presumed was what was growing into my baby. After reading these forums I am confused, Is it possible I could still be pregnant? I presume after even 10 days I could still have a positive test if I still have pregnancy hormones, how long realistically would it take to have a negative test. If the test is negative, what do I do next? Can anyone give me advice as I cant bear to phone the midwife, she seemed so cold and callous when I phoned. I kow this is probably an everyday occurrence for them but I did expect to find a sympathetic ear not just someone sprouting a protocol!

hi there, i misscarried at 7wks. I woke to find i had light bleeding. midwife told be to monitor it and it truned bright red and she then sent me for scan. i feel you need togo to the hospital and they will scan you straight away, and i actually misscarried in the hospital, nurses had to check the tissue to confim if i had. if you get any more tissue its advised to keep it! and give it to nurses. it could be a treatened misscarrige and your baby be ok but i think you need to go hospital straight away to find out for definate. you dont need to tell your midwife just go to hospital and they will see you becasue your bleeding. i hope you get good news and your baby is fine xx

Hi again, i had a friend who bled through her pregnancy which sounds like yours, she advises to get yourself to the hospital, like i said, to have a scan and also to lie down and put a cushion under your bum to tilt your pelivs forward so there is no pressure on bottom of your womb, as it could be a case of the wall being weak at the moment which is causing your bleeds. xx

One of my friends had a low lying placenta which was rubbing on the top of her cervix and this was causing her to bleed, this was bright red bleeding as well, it may not be the worst? but I would definitley push for a scan, even if you have to pay for it? It will stop the worrying and this may be more damaging if everything turns out to be normal. I really hope it all turns out well.

Im sorry to hear your going through it,yes you could be still pregnant as many of us on here have bled and carried on, but you will have to be checked out, sorry about the midwifes too, they have no sympathy at all,ive lost so many and each time they couldnt be bothered to even phone me back, infact if it was left to my midwife and doctor id have been dead by now as i had a bad ectopic so my advise is look after yourself and take it easy.heres hoping for you
