Miscarriage

Me too

I just miscarried at 20 weeks whilst on holiday in Portugal. I started to go into labour on Saturday afternoon when my waters started to break. We called out the doctor who advised she was rushing me to a private hospital. At this stage they thought it was a urinary infection. When I got to the hospital I was put on a drip and given drugs to stop the contractions, which were very powerful and very frequent by then.

An ultrasound was not performed until 5pm the next day when they found the baby was still alive but the amniotic fluid was low and had started to leak out (which I could feel and had been telling them). Anyway, the baby stayed alive until Tuesday morning. The doctor performed another scan, as she had been doing daily, and found the baby had died due to no fluid being left. I then had to give birth to my son John.

My partner and I was told the baby was perfectly formed and healthy. And after receiving more drugs and antibiotics I was discharged to fly home yesterday. When I got home I rang my own hospital and was asked "where is the foetus?" just as a matter of factly like that! I was also told there was no need for a post event check up or anything - so now I just feel abandoned more than ever. I was taken care of very well in a different country and come back to the UK and am just left to 'get on with it'. So I don't even know how long I'm meant to bleed for or how heavy I am supposed to be? Am I supposed to get pain as I am doing? when can I get back to exercise to help me get my body fitter? I'm just left. Its a bad enough time as it is without being abandoned too.

Hello, I just wanted to say that i found your post deeply upsetting and i am very sorry for your loss, i hope that you get some answers and i think putting a complaint in is a good idea. It will no doubt take a long time for you and your partner to come to terms with this and i wish you all the best in the mean time. Take Care and look after yourself xxx
