i was going to deliver in the midwife led unit of my local hospital which meant i would have had a 6 hour stay after birth. but, things took a turn and i ended up being taken into theatre for a forceps delivery. i only stayed in for 17 hours after birth - it took 9 hours for my epidural to wear off (obviously with forceps i had to have an episiotomy) and then long enough for a rest and for the midwives to advise me on breastfeeding.

it really depends on how your birth goes - u could be out after 6 hours or u may have to stay a couple of days. x

Ji there i had to stay overnight when i had my son he was born at 1.19pm. due to a fairly big blood loss due to the tear i gained during delivery my son was born with his arm against his head so he came out a bit like superman. They just wanted to make sure that i was ok ansd wouldnt need any further treatment. If this is your first baby they would proabably like for you to stay in overnight. But i do know some hospitals do let you go home after 6 hours if everything is ok with you and baby.

hiya i was induced so i had to go in the night before the induction so i wouldn't really count that one (sunday night) then on monday i was induced and had my daughter at 5.46pm that night with forceps delivery so obviously i stayed that night then the following afternoon (tuesday) the doctor saw me and gave me the option of going home or staying until the following day. i was the same as you i didn't want a long stay in hospital but my midwifes were so helpful and i was lucky to be in a ward all by myself so i opted for another night as i was having trouble breastfeeding and i went home on the wednesday at lunchtime!x

hi Vicki

Im in ni too! I had our little girl in the Ulster in may - I had her on the saturday morning at 02.00 and got out on sunday afternoon. They kept me in an extra night as we were having a few problems with breast feeding - they told me that they like to keep you in for at least 1 night with your first. They wanted me to stay in another night but I asked to go home as i was fed up with the noisy hospital! Are you going to the Royal?

Hiya My LO was born @ 3.37am on the sat and i was asked to leave soon as the doc came round and said my son was ok. I couldn't breast feed properly and they still chucked me out but to be honest i am glad i went because it was a joke and they were no help what so ever, but that was just my experience @ my local hospital.

Hi, my baby was born at 9.15pm on a thursday and we were home by 2pm on the friday, it could have been earlier but i'd had an epidural and a lot of stitches. I don't think they keep you in long now if they don't have to. xxx
