Labour worries

39+2 and worried about being induced

This is my first pregnancy and I have been told that is very common for first time babies to be late. It's bad enough just worrying about how to get through the birth and now having also to worry about inducement. I was just wondering how many women out there have to be induced and whether the sweep works and how long it takes to work before they have to resort to the gel.

hey hun, try not to worry. I was incuded with my little boy due to reduced fetal movements 5 days b4 my due date my cervix was flavourable so i didn't need the gel. i just had my waters broken by the midwife and the drip to start contractions and 6 hours and 15 mins later my little boy was born. it was by first pregnancy and i was told 48 hrs b4 i was going to be induced so i started reading up on it oh my god i scared myself half to death with the days of labour and extreme pain stories but everything was fine. my sister in law had 2 sweeps and was 9 days overdue she was booked in to be incuded and went into labour the night b4! take care n good luck x

i had my first baby in january. i went into labour spontaneously at 39+3 and was in labour at home for 3 days with just a tens machine for pain relief, before arriving at hospital fully dilated. my baby was born a day early and i had to have a forceps delivery. my sister was induced with her first and it is a more intense labour but remember u will be in hospital and u can have pain relief. anyway, i just wanted to say that not all first babies are late and i am sure being induced is nothing to worry about. x

hi, i had my first baby in april and i was induced 1 wk early( i had gest diabetes). They gave me the gel at 9am....nothing happened, so they gave me another at 3pm, my waters broke on there own at 8.15 and it went from there. They gave me sintocynon ( a hormone drip to bring on contractions) when i got to 6cm. i cant really say it made it more/less painful as i have nothing to compare it too, but i would say just go with the flow, you will be in hospital and there are plenty of options for pain relief. I was adament i didnt want a epidural but in the end i had one on the recommendation of my midwife and partner. You know your own body and pain threshold, when the time comes you will just know what you want. Try not to worry and enjoy your birth experience...it's the best day of your life holding your new baby for the first time....enjoy and let the tears flow !!!! xx

I know it might sound impossible but try not to get stressed if you go over your due date - it's only an estimate. On my due date (a friday) I said to everyone that baby could come on the wed as there were things I wanted to do. Said the same to the midwife on the mon who said sometimes babies pick up on your emotions etc and sure enough he arrived wed am.

A few weeks ago a friend went into labour the day before he husband had a shift he'd been going on anout not wanting to work - the baby got him out of it!

Just to add i was petrified of inducement and refused to think about it. Every mum and labour is completely different. I've got my fingers and toees crossed for you.

hiya i went 12 days overdue! i didn't get stressed about it more impatient! the only thing that stressed me was that my partners boss insisted he started paternity leave on my due date so most of his leave he just lazed around with me! anyhows i was due on the 6th feb, had sweeps every three days and nothing happened not even a show so on sunday the 17th i went in to hospital and on the monday morning i had a pessary of some kind which started terrible back ache but then the babys heart rate dropped so they broke my waters at 12.30pm and it kicked things off big time i didn't have time for an epidural and the pethidine knocked me out so i don't remeber much but my darling daughter was born at 5.46pm that evening!
i was told an induction makes for a more intense labour but i can't tell you coz i'd neva experienced labour b4 and the drugs are good - take them all!
don't worry about it the baby will arrive when it wants to you just gotta b patient and make the most of the sleep, being waited on, free time, relaxation, peace & quiet!!
good luck!xx

Hi, try not to worry about going over your dates. I know loads of people that have had babies in the last couple of years (I must be at that age!) and not one had to be induced. In fact, most came early even though they were all first babies. My labour started 12 days early and my son was born 2 days later, the day before my husbands 30th birthday party (which we cancelled of course!). I kept very active so but I don't know whether it helped or not. Just try to enjoy your last few days of doing nothing. x

hey, im 40 weeks today and have been booked in for induction on the 10th , early as the placenta is very mature. The things they have told me seem very scary and seems like it will take forever its very daunting!
