go to www.babycentre.co.uk (fab site for pregnancy) type in birth plan into search and it will give you examples. sure could just search on google too. normally need to think about who you want there, pain relief, birthing positions, how you want baby delivered i.e. straight onto your chest, or wrapped up in towel first. i would say make sure you give your options a lot of thought so you will be prepared, but don't set your plan in stone, who knows how things will pan out. i didn't physically write a plan but me and my husband discussed it verbally and he knew all my wishes and i trusted him to ensure everything was as i wanted. good luck!

Hi, I got a list of things from my midwife about what the plan should be about and it's really helpful. But mainly it's just so everyone knows what you want, so incase you decide on a drug free birth for example, if it's written down then they know. Nothing wacky, it's just some people want certain things and by the time the birth happens, most aren't in the right frame of mind to say what they want. Hope this helps, but ask your midwife for some guidance. I'm sure ther is also stuff on this site to help you.
Good luck and have fun when your baby arrives.

One thing they do say to mention is who you want to cut the cord as it can easily get forgotten to be asked at the time. I asked my midwife to go through mine and she just basically went through the stuff that's on the back page of your green notes ensuring that you know everything.

One thing I had never been told about was the Vitamin K injection so have a bit of a read up on that.

If you are considering having a mobile epidural, as I was, make sure that your hospital does them. I asked a few weeks ago and it turned out they didn't do them, they only did a slightly milder epidural which meant you couldn't move about so I had to rethink what I wanted.

They do say a birthing plan is just supposed to be an idea but I would suggest you talk to someone about it before you make any set decisions as the facilites/treatments you want may not always be available e.g. the birthing pool.

Hi,
I think its easier and quicker to jot down what you def dont want, them list all the things you do.
For example, i put that i didnt want pethidine, to not be cut would rather risk a small tear, etc etc.
At least you then leave the other options open, cos you never can tell, and from experience (after 6 babies) no midwife who attended me seemed to know or have read my birth plan and just asked things at the time.
If you think for one moment you would like an epidural, then you will have to mention that to the hospital you attend.
Some of the midwife units dont do it, most infact.
So the most important thing to think about is the hospital and the facilities you might need, more then concentrating on a birth plan.
Then plan your hospital bag.
Labour isnt set in stone, so flexibility is the key.
Visit all the hospitals, most of them have dates and times to show you around the labour wards. Ask questions.
Good luck.
