I had a home birth with my 3rd,the midwife gives you a number to caal for the midwife that is on call, they come as soon as you call them, as there are always 2, they bring everything with them including gas and air and something to weigh your baby, i found it very relaxing and i coped better with the pain didnt even use gas and air, i had to be transferred to hospital as wounldnt stop bleeding but there is always an ambulance on stand by if anything should go wrong, however home births are as safe as hospital hope that helps

thanks you have helped
My midwife came with a needle and thread, some local anasthetic and that was about it I think as I had first kid in Holland and you have to have like a kit anyway, whether hopital or homebirth. It has stuff like naval clamp, gauze patches, alchohol (for cleaning not drinking lol) so I mostly had it all in. Wasn't planned, but I'm due to have 3rd kid in UK and after the crap service I got in UK last time in hospital I'm considering another home birth this time. One odd thing they did though was to hand my stepdad the placenta (in a binbag) and asked him to put it in the rubbish as it was bin day that day. I wonder if he put it in the green bin, or the blue bin......
Oops PS I hired a TENS machine and used that the whole time.
i'm 29+3 with my 4th child, i'm thinking of having my baby at home but don't now how to go about it......
I had a home birth the second time round and it was fantastic. I was a lot more relaxed, had my own bath, coped better with the pain as I didn't really need the gas and air (1st birth I had an epidural) so it was a totally different experience. I am going to have a home birth again in August but this time I will make sure I have got lots of tasty food in especially chocolate and cakes as I was starving after both births and didn't get much in the way of nice food. I don't usually have a sweet tooth but you need to replace your energy afterwards. I would say to anyone, stay at home, then you don't have to bother travelling to and from hospital as well!
Hi, I had a homebirth in January with my fourth child after three hospital births. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has had a straightforward pregnancy. Probably not for a first-timer as you don't know how you are going to cope though. The experience is much more personal and you don't feel like you are being rushed along a conveyor belt like you do in hospital! Having your own stuff around you makes a big difference as well and you can use the phone when you want to! for example to check on your older kids. bear in mind that the midwife is not allowed to carry gas and air nowadays so make sure they know that you want it as soon as possible when you go into labour and they will send someone to the hospital for some. Only regret is not having my others at home.
i would love to have a home birth if my partner ever lets me have another lol ;-) but our house is rented! haha and the walls are really thin..the neighbours would not love it..hahaha round here they would probably think i was being murdered and call the police ;-) but i HATED being in hospital more than anything, i forced them to let me leave when my daughter was born. xxx
Hi! I'm 7 month along with my 1st baby, I'm terrified of hospitals and really want a home birth. With it being my 1st everyone is horrified when I tell them I want him at home. I really don't know what to expect but at this moment in time I feel that the more relaxed I am the easier it will go...is this true? I haven't spoken to my midwife about it yet because I'm scared she will tell me I can't have one.
