i really want to have my second child at home, but am really worried about it, i am only 6 weeks nearly 7 weeks gone, i wanted to do it the 1st time but becoz it was my 1st child i had no idea wot it would be like, and now i do i really want a home birth, ive always hated hospitals i think its a good idea but i dont kno anything about it, is anyone able to give me advice on what to do please?
hi..i would talk to your midwife, i had two home births and they were brilliant and if i had any more i would def have another one. In different areas it is different which is why talking to your midwife is a good idea...dont let them bully you into not having one! My partner delivered both of mine as the midwife didnt get to me in time! Did you have a trouble free time before?? Good luck anyways
www.homebirth.org.uk is very useful. There is also a homebirth group on yahoo forums.
Good luck, and if you decide it is what you want, don't let them talk you out of it... you have the right to birth where you want (it just depends how much you are prepared to fight if your local trust is not supportive).
I had a homebirth with my second, and if I were to have any more children they would be born at home too. It was the most amazing experience of my life, and I can honestly say I enjoyed it. I was so much more relaxed, could eat and drink what I wanted when I wanted, move around as I pleased. I did have a really good midwife which helped, she came out to me even though she wasn't even on call! I didn't have any internal exams, wasn't strapped up to any monitors. You still get gas and air, and you can request pethidine as well. All the mess is cleaned up and taken care of. I had my daughter at half 6 in the morning, I spent half an hour in my own shower with no one rushing me. The midwives were gone by 8 and I was tucked up in my own bed by 9.
And i forgot to say earlier, I was refused a homebirth as I was classed a high risk pregnancy with a thyroid problem.. Without visiting homebirth.org I would never have known I couldn't be refused one, or how to fight for one. At 36 weeks I was still being told by my consultant that I couldn't have a homebirth, but two seperate supervisor of midwives from separate hospitals both said I could so I did.
