Hiya, A close friend of mine had a home birth with her second (it wasnt a planned home birth) She loved it and said if they have another she would have a home birth again but defo plan it cause she didnt really get a chance to get to the hospital when the ambulance turned up the paramedics cant cut the baby's cord they had to wait for the midwife to turn up just to cut the cord! But she said she liked the fact that her eldest daughter was there and was able to come into the room straight away and see her little sister :) dont know if that helped but I think personally if u live close enough to a hospital (Just in case anything does go wrong) then why not?? Years ago all women had there Children at home so it cant be that bad :) hope i helped a little xx

i'm 17 weeks with my 3rd, my midwife said i should have a home birth this time. I had pre and post natal depression with my 1st son, i got it again with my 2nd son - but not as bad. I had really good births, and very large and healthy babies (8lb11oz and 9lb1oz - i'm only 5.5 and a size 8/10) she thinks by having a home birth i will reduce the chances or amount of PND again. i dont know anyone who's had a home birth

Hi there, I had planned a home birth but it didn't go quite to plan. My contractions started early hours but although they were between 5 and 7 mins apart they weren't too painful. They gradually got stronger and midwife came out in early hours the following morning. By this time I had had no sleep for 24 hours due to contractions and was pleased I was 4cm. She stayed and ordered gas and air. By 8am ish I was 7cm but still same at lunchtime and getting tired then so was transferred to hospital, given epidural and drip to increase contractions. Was fully dilated at 8.30pm but after pushing for an hour and a half, had to have ventouse delivery. My little man was 6lbs12. He's my first and midwife said I would prob be successful at home next time! I'm glad I tried it as it meant I could stay at home as long as possible with one to one attention from midwife and relaxed home surroundings rather than hustle and bustle of hospital. My parents were worried in case "anything goes wrong" but baby and me were monitored regularly and when doing my birth plan with midwife she assured me that they can tell in plenty of time if you need transferring to hospital. As its your second you should be fine. Good luck.

I would love a home birth birth this time around as i have had all 3 of my babies very quickly but with my 2nd baby his heart rate dropped to 67 beats while i was in labour at hospital and i was only 2cm so i had to rushed off for a c section but before they could get me around i went to 10cm and had him in the coridoor he wasnt breathing and had to be rushed off to sbcu for 24 hours, this has put me off having a home birth as i fear things can go wrong so quickly and i would much rather be at the hospital where they can help as quickly as possible. If i didnt have this experence i would defo want a home birth tho, i hope all goes well for you x

Hi Emma
I had an UNPLANNED home birth and it was totally magical. I am planning the next home birth as it was totally relaxing and I felt so safe at home with all my things around me and it was truely amazing. I would def recomend it. Hope all goes well. My advice if you are having a home birth get cheap dark towels that you can throw away after as all my brand new white towles where used in a rush and all had to be thrown! x

Hi Emma
My name is Emily and i'm also planning a home birth. I've got about 8 weeks to go and i'm starting to feel nervous. I had my first in hospital and i'm hoping for a more relaxed atmosphere this time. I would love to hear about your experience.
