Home birthhas anyone had a homebirth?
with just 4 weeks to go i really want a homebirth.. its taken a while to convince my husband he was worried about what if thngs go wrong? i havent had any complications at all. has anyone had a homebirth? what sort of things do i need to buy? or am i doing the wrong thing should i go to the birth centre?
hi i second your questions, this is my first pregnancy and i would like a home birth. im quite a private person and also think it wil help me keep more at ease, my hospital is only 15min drive away and my midwife does not seem to have any worrys with it at mo. but would like other peoples opinions. xx
i think you guys are very brave. i have had two and none a home birth altho the mid wife did push it alot.. both my pregnacy's were test book until the birth my 1st things went wrong i wanted a birth centre but was taken to hospital i did manage to go natural with only gas and air but it was tough going and i am glad i had the hospital staff there as was touch and go for a c section.. my second was loads better and again just gas and air at a birth centre.. the only thing i say think about alot the mid wifes know what they are doing and 1st sign of trouble they would get you on your way but would you want to travel with contractions it is not pleasent. but like i said mid wifes are great they know as soon as something is wrong.. all the best.. it is the best holding your little ones in your arms after so long.. :o)
my mid wife was quite happy for me to go ahead with a home birth. and the birth centre is only a few minutes away but if anything went wrong and i needed a c section wether im at home or in the birth centre i would be transfered to bridgend so either way im not really better off. but i think i will be more relaxed at home. i had my older daughter in a hospital was in labour all night the bed was so uncomfortable and i couldnt relax at all... think im more worried that the dog will howl if i make too much noise LOL
hi i had a home waterbirth with my second and it is the best thing i could of done, i was really relaxed which i think helps with the labour and birth, i just hope i will be able to have a homebirth this time.. ..Is there anyone that could look after your dog for you if not at least if the dog does howl nobody will hear you (only joking). Go for the homebirth its great
we have 2 x 7 month staffies they have thier own beds (cages) which they sleep in with toys and bones. and a cavalier king charles, think the will definately have to be in another room. fab dogs very loving thats the prob when i feel unwell they wont leave my side cant even pee in peace.. and the cavalier loves to lay by the bump she seems to think its her baby kicking when baby kicks. she so funny she produces milk and everything... but yes maybe getting the dogs to howl a little isnt a bad thing?? spent years training dogs and dealing with behaviour issues and even tho i trust my dogs i wouldnt ever leave them for a second with the baby not even the spaniel... so many people say i know my dog but they do have thier own minds and can react quite differently when your not in the room..
i think if you want to have a home birth then go for it! as far as i'm aware you dont need to buy anything but the midwife will drop off packs of equipment in advance and leave them at your house (if they still do that).
i went to a birth centre in labour with our daughter. it was just lovely. the midwife didnt leave me and it was just like being in my own living room but good to know that help was one floor above! i would have liked a home birth but what with it being my first i wasnt sure how i would cope with the pain given pain relief during a home birth is restricted and thought i'd feel much more secure being in a hospital knowing help was right there. as it happened i laboured entirely at home and was already fully dilated by the time i got to hospital. i managed it all at home with just a TENS machine and then had gas and air once i got to hospital so I needn't have worried about not coping! complications did happen though and i ended up in theatre for forceps. i know i'll be all right when it comes to labour with this baby also, but my partner wont entertain the idea of a home birth and i wont push the subject!
you know taht the first sign of trouble and the midwife will have you in hospital quicker than you can blink, so you will be perfectly safe. home births are supposed to be more relaxing so go for it! good luck! x
think your right .. will speak to the midwife again next tuesday when i see her. can always change my mind and go to the birth centre if im not coping..

hi, i was concidering a home birth my self but my midwife was a bit of a put of as she told me that if i came in labour in the middle of the night that id have to wait over an hour for her to get to me as she has to go to the hospital to collect my notes and then get to me, as well as that if any thing went wrong such as the shoulders got stuck that she might not be able to get me to hospital in time, so she was more in clien to suggest that i have a water birth at hospial, this is my 5th child so she reasured me that nothing was likely to happen but she would feel at ease if i had the birth at hospital
i had my second child at home...which wasnt planned may i add lol,it was a very quick birth, had no problems at al and to say it was unplanned i still felt relaxed. my son arrived before any midwife arrived my partner delivered his son into the world which is a bond they will have for life :-)
this time around im choosing to have a planned home birth and hope things go as well as the unplanned 1 lol :)
my homebirth went well no problems at all and would definately do it again...
good luck netty1 hope all goes well for u xx
