General concernsGrowth spurt???
Hi ladies, just wondering whether you think Isla is having a growth spurt or could it be something else? She's been feeding off me every 2 hourly today and she's been 4 hourly since coming home from hospital which was 2 weeks ago! Is 2 weeks around the time babies have growth spurts? I know i've got enough milk and she's definitely latched on properly, she put 3oz on in her first week. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance, Sian xxx
Is my toddler big for his age??
Hi I was just wondering if my little boy was big for his age. He is the eldest of my two sons so I have no comparison. He is 21 months and 39'' tall and a size 7 shoe. people often think he is older and tend to expect a lot from him in terms of development, i feel I am always having to say his age so people don't think he is behind. I do realise this is the wrong place to post but it won't let me start a new topic and this was the only growth related topic I could find.
hi yummy*mum
he does sound like he is quite big, but i wouldnt let it worry you at all. if he is healthy and happy, that is all that matters. my daughter will be 4 in January and although i dont know her exact height, i have just got a tape measure and held it against me (my daughter isnt at home at the moment for me to measure!) and she is probably about a similar height (around 37") and takes a size 7 1/2 shoe.
i have a friend whose son was very big for his age when he was younger and now at nearly 6 years old he is one of the smallest in his class!
hi little lord, i would probably say it is, my little one is 14 weeks now but with in the first 6 weeks she had quite a few growth spurts sometimes only a gap of 15 min inbetween feeds and would scream if i put her down, however if your little one carrys on for few days it might just be that she is a hungry baby, my little one got into a 4 hour routine nice and early as well but when she was having these days i found that when nothng else made her happy i.e clean nappy, not tired etc then i just feed on demand, hers only lasted a max of two days each. if it is a growth spurt she will soon settle back down but make sure you look after your self i was so busy feeding her i didnt really drink or eat much and boy did i feel so so drained and tired( if its possible to feel more tired with a new born) at the end of the day. hope this helps good luck xxx
Thank you, I had anticipated he would be a little bigger as he was 10lb 4oz and 59cm at birth, but hasn't showed much sign of slowing. The health visitor thought I had taken him to the clinic for a three year check, but I was actually getting my younger son weighed!! I think he is just big, although people often wonder why he isnt potty trained or sometimes struggles with colours and instructions but again he is only young so I defend him anyway. I am not too tall and nor is my partner, but males in my family are, so he may take after them or his growth may slow as he gets older I guess.
Hi, my little girl (just turned 4) was a similar height at that age but she is tall and skinny and about the tallest at nursery. She only had about size 4 and a half feet though (probably should have fallen over with such small feet!) She looks older than she is but luckily she is quite forward for her age so we don't have the problem of people expecting too much of her. I'm worried about my little man though as he is only 7 months old, was born 11 pound 15 ounces and is just squeezing out of 9-12 month clothes. He is off the height charts and probably looks like an average 12 month old (or older) but obviously can't do everything a 12 month old can do (he's giving it a good go though!!). I still breast feed him but don't like to feed him in public anymore incase it looks like i'm breastfeeding a 6 year old!! it worries me that people will think he is a bit slow as he looks so old. I'm hoping though that he will slow down but having heared what you have said then maybe he won't. I think when he is abit older i'll have to find him an "I am one" t shirt so people don't think he is two. He is good for the shock value though when people ask how old he is. I'm only 5 ft 7 so the kids obviously get their height from their dad. I recon i've got a supermodel and England rugby player on my hands! Perhaps your little boy will be playing for England too!
Ahh wow, thats great!! Yea definately going with the super model and rugby player reference!! :) People say the same about my sons, with the rugby I mean. My 5 month old is long too. Yea I had an I am one T shirt for him........ seriously! haha Yea I breastfed him too and you wouldn't think people would be so brazen to whisper and judge but it happened to me a few times in public. He attends nursery a few hours a week and is catching up in terms of language comprehension and he loves making friends, once we get the potty training down there will be no stopping him. I am 5ft 7 too and my partner is 5ft 10 so he must take after men in my family and I put it down to the boys inheriting my rhesus neg blood, but grandad and uncle are 6ft 6 and my sister is 6ft 2. Hopefully they will be big and strong to look after me :)
