Feeding your new baby

tongue ties and breast/bottle feeding

my first child was born with a tongue that was not recognised for 3 weeks in those 3 weeks i really struggled breast feeding and because it meant so much to me i felt like if i chnaged to bottles that i was giving up. The midwife howeve said she had never seen so much trauma to someones breasts and then they had his tie cut. I am due my second and i want to be prepared for a tongue tie and will not feel bad this time if i decide to use bottles..... I eas wandering does anybody know how to get hold of the pre sterilised glass bottles? to take into hospital with me?? what does everyone else do?

you can get the pre-sterilised starter packs from places like tesco or mothercare. other supermarkets may sell them - i think sainsbury do - but you are very restricted on what brand - i have only ever seen the starter packs in SMA.

you could take cartons of ready made milk but of course you wont use a whole carton in one go and once opened they need to be refrigerated - so it would depend on whether there are fridge facilities to store the carton and also if they provide any sterilisation facilities for the bottles.

i have only ever breastfed in hospital - although i did have to switch to bottle once home due to various health problems - but i know that all hospitals are different as to what facilities they will provide for bottlefeeding
