Feeding your new babybreastfeeding through a bottle
i would like to give my baby all the nutrients and benifits of breast feeding however i would also like my partner to have that bonding time through feeding someone said to me about feeding my baby my breast milk through a bottle so my partner can feed the baby as well what are your views on this?
why not! you just express it with a pump. i think its great for him to be involved. good for you having a fantastic dad for your little one.
Get yourself a breast pump and go for it! I used a manual avent one, tried an electric one but really didn't like it. My daughter was happy to drink from breast or bottle, as long as she was getting her milk from somewhere!
It was also great for my husband to get that bond with her as at times I think he felt a bit left out, at bedtimes and stuff.
Also it's great for when you feel ready to go out and about, and you can feel great leaving baby with your partner for an hour or two without worrying that littlun may need a feed, as you can leave a bottle in the fridge before you go.
I decided as soon as I found out that I was pregnant that I was going to express (giving formula never even crossed my mind!) I know your not meant to give them expressed milk until they are about 3 weeks and you've got settled into a routine, is that right? I'm actually going to do it for more selfish reasons than letting my boyfriend bond with the baby, I was thinking more of getting more than 2 hours sleep in a row hahaha
My boyfriend works 3pm until 11pm so we've decided that I'll do until he gets home, he does until 3am then I'll take over again until he's awake...works out pretty good for us I think...lets hope the lo will be kind and fit into our little plan OK hehehe
It is a great way of getting your other half to bond with the baby. Not a good idea until after about 4 weeks, just to let your milk supply settle down. But it is a good idea. We tried our daughter at six weeks over Christmas adn she wouldn't take it. I think this time round I may try a bit earlier so baby gets used to a bottle earlier. Maybe one feed a week to start with, but that is just personal.
You still have to do all the sterilising, but at least there is no faffing with powders and such like.
Plus it is best for your baby and gives you a break. I breastfed my daughter till she was a year and she is so healthy, so proves it all works. Plus the good bonus is it is free and there is no messing about, ready as soon as baby wants it and the right temperature. What more could you want? Good luck xxxx
