hi,
could someone please tell me how long they think is a suitable time to breastfeed your baby for the first time? ive been told not to breast feed for more than a few mins each breast for the first few days, and not to feed to much, about 3-4 times a day.
i personally think that is a bit harsh not to feed your baby when its bound to be hungry.
I don't know who told tyou that, but it sounds like crap to me! I was told expect to feed 10-12 times in 24 hours for the first few days. Your baby needs to suckle little and often to establish a good milk supply. Also you should let them suckle for as long as they want to, again they need to make sure you produce enough milk for them and the only way to do that is to suckle at the breast.
Oh, and I am successfully feeding bub number 2 at the moment, so I must have been doing something right!
I have read that about 25mins each feed.
I am planning on breast feeding and am due on Monday, on my ante natal classes they told me to let the baby feed on demand and for how ever long they want as they will come off when they have had enough. Also i have heard that you should change breasts regularly during a feed but on my ante natal class they said to feed off one breast until theres no milk left in it and then after if your baby wants it then move them on to the other, so I am a little bit confused.
