i was hoping to give breast feeding a go, but was going to take bottles and formula to the hospital just in case it doesnt work, i was looking into what bottles to buy this might sound silly but i wondered if these would be ok for a new born??

yes, the bottles are fine but you just need to make sure you get the right size teat - it doesnt actually say what size come with it. you need a size 1 for a newborn.

dont forget though to contact your hospital to check what sterilisation facilities they have as taking bottles and formula into hospital isnt as easy as it sounds! not all hospitals provide facilities now so it is quite difficult. the only other option is to take in a starter park of bottles and milk (about _16 for 24 pre sterilised glass bottles containing approx 90 mls of milk).

thanks for the comment, i was wondering this as i wasn't sure whether i had to sterilise the bottles before i go into hospital because i thought being in the bag would kind of defeat the object of sterilising as she wont be using them straight away , think ill have to check this with my midwife when she comes round to go though my birthing plan

sterilising them and putting them in a bag isnt a problem as you dont keep the outside of a bottle sterile anyway - it is the inside being sterile that matters. once a bottle is steriliesd it needs to be filled with boiled water and then it will remain sterile for 24 hours (sterilised bottles must not be kept empty as they do not remain sterile due to the trapped air - air not being sterile, whereas boiled water is sterile) - obviously though you have absolutely no idea when you are going to need the bottle and you certainly arent going to remember to sterilise bottles when you are in labour!
definitely ask your midwife.
tbh though i wouldnt let this worry you too much. i planned to breastfeed both of my children. i never took in any bottles - the thought never even crossed my mind. in hospital it was fine - there are midwives there to help out etc. the problems set in for me afterwards.

iv got the cow and gate starter pack, saves messing about with bottles and sterilisers in hospital.
