Feeding your new babyBottle Feeding
When I came out of hosp my baby was on 4oz feeds every 3-4 hours, then he went 2 hours feeds i was recommended to increase his feeds to 5oz, he is now feeding every 3 hours and i have gone to 6oz feeds and he is draining the bottle, do you thing i should go on the hungrier food thank you
No. he is feeding a good amount. how old is he?
the problem with hungry baby milk is that it takes them longer to digest it and therefore your baby will feed less - but it contains the same number of calories as stage 1 milk only so due to the fact that your baby will feed less often means he'll take less calories which in turn will reduce his weight gain.
if he was feeding 8oz every hour and still wanting more, then you'd consider hungry baby milk, but at the moment it all sounds perfectly fine the way it is. he needs to take in lots of milk to grow.
Is he content between feeds? No colic or bad tummy? If so then stick with the normal milk for the reasons above and demand feed. If he is draining every bottle then add an extra ounce. Dont forget its the total amount of what they take during the day that gets them through the night. They cant start to sleep through till they can manage to squeeze in a big enough amount during the day to see them through. My eldest had reflux so he struggled to take larger feeds till later on but from 5 weeks my youngest was on 7 to 9 oz every 2 to 3 hours during the day but slept from 8 till 6 (mind you he is a big lad!)
If you dont think he is content between feeds even when he has had his fill then you might want to have a think to see if something other than hunger is bothering him. Sometimes over feeding can be a symptom of something else but more likely he is just a greedy boy like mine x
