fruit and veg ideas!

I still have very little appetite and am worried I'm not eating enough fruit and vegetables to get the right nutrition. I have been taking multi vitamins to boost, midwife advised this. I really don't like the thought of eating fruit or vegetables, although I really do try but end up being sick. Before I fell pregnant I loved all veg could eat it till it came out my ears, so to say, never been to keen on fruit though. I have been trying to drink fresh fruit juices.
Have any of you got any ideas about how I can get my 5 a day in, trick myself some how into eating without being sick??

cut up veg into a small dice and mix them into stews, casseroles, pasta dishes - that way you wont actually notice as they'll be overpowered by the main ingredient in the dish - whether that be beef, chicken or pasta!

you coudl also make yourself fruit smoothies or fruit milkshakes as well. one of my favourites (and olivia's as well!) is a banana, scoop of vanilla ice cream and milk. you could do that with strawberries or raspberries too (in fact any soft fruit would work)

lol I forgot to mention I can't eat meat, just ham, at the moment either, it seems to be any grease and vegetable that make me sick. I seem to live on potatoes and a little salad! Thanks for the suggestion though Shelly! Are you having a good day so far? xx

oh right! you could still do the pasta one - some pasta in a tomato (if you can manage it!) or cheese sauce with a bit of ham mixed in and the diced up veg!
honestly, dont worry too much though - you shouldnt rely on the multivitamins but the fact that you are taking them means you are getting some nutrition just eat whatever you can manage. your baby will be absolutely fine as it'll take from your nutrient reserves and it will leave you depleted but your baby will be fine. a friend of mine had hyperemesis in both her pregnancies and threw up everything she ate for the entire 9 months and both of her children were born weighing just over 9lbs so they must have got their nutrition from somewhere because sure certainly couldnt eat much!
i am having a good day thank you! just hanging out with olivia this morning and then off to the midwife later and then my mum is making me a birthday meal. i have been told she has baked a birthday cake too - just hoping she hasnt put 30 candles on it! x

Hi Ann-Marie, I'm the same love my veg but not keen on fruit. How about mixing your veg with sauces so cauli/broccoli cheese or mash with hidden carrot and swede with gravy. I wouldn't worry too much at the moment though when your sickness starts to abate you'll be able to eat a more balanced diet. I was telling amanda the other day there was a lady in one of my pregnancy mags when I was having max who was throwing up constantly and got hospitalised 3 times for dehydration, and in the end all she could eat was dry coco pops and something else that I can't remember but nothing nutritious, and her baby was about 9lb and perfectly healthy!

Oh my goodness lol! Well my mum had sever sickness with me and was hospitalised for the last three month of pregnancy and my dad was told she was too weak to give birth naturally or have a c section, but I arrived 3 weeks early and a healthy 6ib 6 and a half! A few women have said that you take after your mother during pregnancy lol! I hope I don't! My sickness is much better than it was, I only feel nauseous from about 1pm and then I'll be sick at bed time, but not every night. I just want my appetite back, I'm fed up of feeling hungry lol xx

Can you eat yoghurt? You could chop some fruit up in that. Wouldn't worry though x

I can eat yoghurt, although I have to be in the mood for it, crazy brain I have! I love fruit corners so maybe I should go buy some! That's a fab idea, thanks Sharon x
