foods you cant eat when pregnant which you really want!

Why is it you want what you cant have?!
Once baby no 2 makes her appearance in November, i am desperate to have a plate of runny fried egg and chips, a soft whipped ice cream and to not have to watch the amount of tuna I eat (i love the stuff!). What foods are you desperate for that you cant have while pregnant?

do you kno what u r so right! i think it changes every year and i also think it changes with every midiwfe and dr.
im from South Africa and my best friend still lives there. she has two daughters and hearing her notes on pregnancy compared to mine are so different! for example in sa they tell you that you should eat peanuts because they are a good source of protien. and honestly i never heard of a peanut allergy until i moved to england!
also they tell you that under no circumstances should you ever even have a sip of alcohol or have anything with alcohol in it. which i definately agree with! and i find it weird that uk says one glass is ok.
i think as long as its not raw, full of caffiene drugs or alcohol then ur probably fine.
altho i must say i double check almost everything! lol
and the formula thing is weird coz i kept formula in he fridge with my first (shes just over 2) and i was never told not to! but then i never asked.
i also think that low fat yoghurt thing i s strange, how do they make that connection?? there is something new every other day cant keep up!!

Hi Shelly, thought I'd reply on here!
You'll have to hope that you have another good baby and she sleeps through after a few weeks, it would be a nightmare being up all night and then getting up at 6 or earlier with an energetic 3 year old!! Oh thats nice if your sister can help out!
Max has got some new toys recently, and loads in his bedroom that he hasn't played with yet from sister in law, and she keeps sending more bags full of things but since he started walking he's not interested. He just wants to walk (or run!) everywhere, we go from living room to dining room to kitchen and back again and he carries either two little toys with him (or two socks or a bit of string or a bit of fluff off the floor...) and we keep doing that till I get tired and then I shut the gate and lock us in the living room and then he'll potter about in there for a while lol, he's really funny but he'd rather walk than play and most of our play is me chasing him or crawling round pretending to be a tiger getting him!
He's been lovely this afternoon but was mega grumpy this morning!
He had longer naps than normal today so could throw our night time off again!

Re foods you crave when pregnant - I think with me it was anything I couldn't have the same as when you're on a diet and want everything that you can't have!
I was pregnant over xmas so couldn't have a drink, or pate or smoked salmon with mousse inside which is what we usually have for starters, I also like steak medium so had to ask for it well done when we went out (and chefs don't like doing that do they!). Cheese didn't bother me as I only eat hard cheese usually anyway and don't like ice cream but the worst by far was when my thoughtful hubby got me some choccies - my favourite cherry kirsch!! He never thought about the booze in them! So had to sit and watch him eat them lol!!

that's interesting about the peanuts in south africa! i do believe that sometimes we cause allergies but not eating certain things such as the peanuts. my mum was never told to avoid peanuts when pregnant and neither me nor my sister have nut allergies! although i of course do agree that it is dangerous to eat some things while pregnant such as mould-ripened cheese etc.
as i said above, i dont drink anyway, but i'd never do it while pregnant despite our stupid guideline of a small amount being ok!
re formula stored in fridge: the reason you should not keep formula in the fridge is because as soon as the formula powder is added the bottle is no longer sterile and is a breeding ground for bacteria and several years ago (prior to the rule about not doing it), babies were ending up in hospital with stomach problems and it turned out it was because of stored formula. once the powder is added the feed must either be used within 2 hours or thrown away.
re the yogurt: the article said they had followed ladies from pregnancy until the child was 7 and that is how they came up with the increased asthma risk. there really is something new every day though! it was only the other day that i saw an article which i thought was very silly and it was about how there are certain fruits and veg (which if not organic obviously) are the most contaminated - apples, peaches, potatoes, grapes - the list was endless it said they were all contaminated with higher levels of pesticides etc due to them either growing underground or having thin skins such as the grapes and apples etc. it is ridiculous - we are going to end up not being able to eat anything soon - pregnant or not!

Took 40mins and two attempts to get him down....not great but I suppose it could have been worse! Trying to see the positive!
Yes you could have a small glass if it was shortly after a breastfeed, the alcohol leaves the milk in the same way it leaves your body so an hour per unit. So just be careful how much you have in your glass, 125ml is 1.5 units, 175ml is 2 units and 250ml is 3 units. Used to be a big drinker so know my units lol!! :-))xx

yes, you're right - could have been worse! hopefully he'll have a good night now and will stay in bed a little later in the morning.
thanks for that - i wont have a huge amount - i really dont like to - i wouldnt do it pregnant so i wont do it while breastfeeding, but good to know that i can have a little drop with my xmas dinner!

I very rarely drink - and I mean literally a glass or two at xmas or a special occasion and that is about it so that one doesnt hugely bother me! however, it's my 30th birthday at the end of next month and we are going out with my best friend for a meal in a few weeks to celebrate (it's her 30th birthday next week) and i know she'll be drinking and celebrating with an OJ isnt quite the same despite me not being a big drinker!
we took Olivia to the seaside a couple of weekends ago and watching her and Adam eat a nice soft whipped ice cream was a tad painful!
