Caesarean sectionWhats the chances of having another c-section for baby No 2
Hi, due to fibroids + breech baby, I had a c-sec in march 09, planning to fall preggers again next year, if i could choose i'd opt for another planned c-section.
My question is, if you have had one c-section is it most likely that you will be advised to have another one?
thanks L-Kay.
Hiya im 39 weeks with No 2 i had Emergency Section with 1st, and this time round i have been advised to try natural. Altho i think that if i had really really wanted another section they would have done that too.
I think they base their advice on the reason why you had your section in the first place.
but would have thought if you want an elective section there should be no reason why not.
Good luck! xx
hi hun
i agree with above ive had 3 normal births but probs after and 1 planned c-sec with 4th
baby. theuy do sometimes like you to try if you have ahd a section but again
relly depends on why you had the section in the first place.
my friend was told that as she had a small pelvis she wouldnt be able to have a normal delivery so went on to have 2 sctions but when she had her 3rd she had a normal delivery so it was poss that she didnt really need the other 2 sections.
when you do become pregnant i guess you would need to talk to your doctor.
good luck
hugs xxx
Your usually given the choice hun, the people who I have known who had C Sections first time round, got given a c section date for their subsequent pregnancies, and if they went naturally before that, then unless there was a medical reason why it would be dangerous, it was allowed to go ahead, but normally the section date was around 1 week before the due date, and normally comes before the labour!
You CAN have a natural birth after a section, but I think it can sometimes be a little more complex, and so you are usually offered a section though choice :)
im glad this has been asked, i've had 1 natural birth and 1 emergency c-section, i am diabetic so not sure if they would push me for a c-section, but im desparate foe a natural birth for baby no3 (i am pregnant bt nt far and havent even seen my midwife ye) i do have my booking appointment with the diabetic midwife in 9 days so i will ask then, i will let you know what she tells me, likely hood is if they ok me to have a vbac, and in your case there are no other complications, then you should be fine to go natural xxx
Hi ladies big, thanks for your replies, Does anyone know if it's true that the stitches from previous c-section have a high risk of rupturing and can possibly cause internal bleeding? I do remember hearing this at some point but unsure about how reliable the source.xx
Hi I had a section with my first. I saw the doc a few weeks ago and was told as my section was due to position of baby there was no reason I should have another section as the chance of it happening again is no higher than anyone else. They gave me some info about the risks of rupture with a v-bac but I cant find it. Its very low though. Something like 1 in 1000 or 1 in 2000. They are very clear about the pro's and con's and explain it all to you. As there are also different risks with an elective section and its about the same percentages you are given the choice the second time round. The hospital have very strongly tried to encourage me to go v-bac but my midwife has made it clear its up to me. I dont go back again till Im 36 weeks and I have till then to decide.
meant to say midwife has made it clear its my choice :)
Hello, I had an emergency section with my first 5 years ago, I am now 28 weekks prgnent with my second. I had to be seen by a consultant to discuss what birth I wanted this time and I want to try for natural. The consultant said that it is up to me to decice but they also said it depends on the reasons why I had a sectin in the first place. For me I was stuck at 9cms dilation and the baby was not laying in the right position, therefore I coulsn't have pushed him out. This also means that there is no reason why my body cant go for natural labour as it has done most of the work before.
I personally dont another section because I need t drive and the recovery takes so long!!
I have been told that if i want a section it will be done at 39 weeks, otherwise I let nature take its course, they can give me a sweep at 40 and 41 weeks and I am allowed to have my waters broken, but that is all, they will not induce as it puts to much pressure on the scar.
Also they will moniter the baby constantly and if there is any sign of distress or sign of scar ruptire then I will have a section straight away.
My midwife told me that at that hospital where I will be going, since Jan this year only one lady had to be rushed in sue to a possible scar rupture, that is only one in thousands!
Sorry for the long reply but I wanted to include all the info I have got so far!!!!
Hope I have helped a little,xx
thanks for all your comments they were very helpful.. What is a V-Bak btw.
Knowing i can have an electtive c-section will really put my mind at ease. I had very painful fibroids they were low lying and as baby got heavier i was in agony, ( fibroids are non cancerous tumours that grow inside the walls of the womb, due to the huge increase of estrogen) they wer so painful and grew bigger throughout the pregnancy. I was advised to to have them sugically removed untill i have completed my family. as the op could heavily reduce my chances of concieving.
so in someways im looking forward to the pregnacy and in another i am not, but giving my daughter a sibling is so important to me, so i will grin and bear it.
thanks again for your replies. xx
vbac stands for vaginal birth after c-section (i think)
