VBAC stories please ladies -need help/advice

Hi everyone!

I had a really horrible birth with my first that ended in an emergency section and problem after problem. I really want a natural birth this time as I don't want things to be as bad for me or baby. I was hoping some of you could tell me about your VBAC experience good or bad & tell me if there's anything I could/should be doing to encourage a successful VBAC. I am 36+3 now. Hospital are seeing me at 39+6 to see if I'm close to labour otherwise it will be another section. Oh my 1st was a failed induction -my body basically fought labour as the hospital were busy & tried to rush everyone through as quickly as possible so they turned the drip up too much to soon etc. Sorry to ramble just trying to provide as much info as possible.
Thanks in advance for any help xo

Please anyone with any comments/stories good/bad please share -i'm getting myself so wound up. I know people who have had sections or natural births but no one who has had a natural birth after a section. My little one is nearly 18months so my section wasn't that long ago, dunno if this makes a difference.

hi i have not had a VBAC but i no a few other people that have and it all went successfully for them!! i remember my friends had a water birth with her second and she said it was much better and calmer than the first one that ended up with a emergency c-section!! i dont think there is much your can do to help except think positivly that u can do it and will do it but on the other hand keep in ur mind it may not happen and u may need another c-section. i dont think think how long ago u had ur section really matters that much as once u have healed ur healed wether its 18months or 18 years!! talk to ur midwife through ur worries as she will be able to tell u what u can do! x

hi thanks for ur reply. I don't know what the health service is like in other areas but where I am it seems to be crap. I'm not allowed a water birth or to even sit in a bath at hospital. They wana monitor me constantly & are annoyed that I have refused induction as this is what caused all my problems last time. I don't have a midwife just who ever is on the clinic that day. Iv said so many times that I don't want a repeat of last time. Id rather go into labour & deliver naturally or go straight to planned section if baby doesn't come. I'm really hoping that i'll go into labour at home where I plan to hide as long as possible. I don't want them interfering with me like last time, I just want to be left to try on my own. Sorry to rant I'm just stressing & getting no help or advice from health care providers. I've read about women in USA who've had successful VBACs after 1/2 c-sections but I haven't found many stories from UK -I don't know if it's down to the NHS not supporting it fully?

well thats crap my midwife was great being a young mum who had moved away from all my family at 6 moinths pregnant she was really helpfull!! if u cud afford it getting a private midwife wud be great as they support VBAC's and u see the same person all the time!! i looked into it as i wanted a water birth but being over weight i was classed as a high risk pregnancy and the hospital said i couldnt but a private midwife said i could!! i just didnt take it any further!! but luckily i had a lovely midwife deliver my baby and she was really suppotive!!! i do hope they listen to you!!!! i think the NHS dont support it fully as its much more of a pain for them to do VBAC's as its constant monitering and they just dont have the time to do it!! good luck! x

Hiya!

Dont know where you are from, but i have the opposite problem!! I had a emergency C Section almost 3 years ago and am currently 30weeks preg with number2 and i am being pushed to have a VBAC!!! I dont mind but the problem is i have big babies my first was 9lb 10oz and this one is measuring big already so im scared of pushing a big one out lol!! I said i was perfectly willing to try vbac if they would induce me a week early or even on my due date but they said no! They wont induce me at all due to the increased risk of uterine rupture(teeny tiny increased risk!) and if she doesnt come naturally they will give me a section again. Personally i would rather be booked in for elective section so i know whats what!
Different areas different rules its rubbish isnt it? Maybe we should swap where we live so we could both get the birth we want!!

Hey, I looked into private care at the beginning of my pregnancy but it was only a few extra appointments with a consultant & they couldn't guarantee they'd definately be there for the birth cause I'm due close to the July holidays -I live in Northern Ireland (County Down). Some of the doctors I've seen have really pushed for the VBAC & said they would do induction etc so were very annoyed when I kept refusing induction. Other doctors seemed shocked that I was given an automatic c-section. I just want the best for my baby so am hoping that a natural birth with work for the best.
mum2milly -Ive worked with women before who have had babies over 10lbs & said it was fine so I guess it depends on your own body or something. I think it is completely insane that different areas & even doctors within the same hospital can tell you such different things. There's must be case studies of many women across the world who have had VBACs that they could use to set one set of rules. After all we're meant to be under the same government so why do things like health care vary so much?
Good luck to everyone & I hope you all get the birth experience your hoping for -I don't know how many stars I've wished on just hoping things will be very different this time. xo

Hi all, after having my first son by emergency section I was encouraged to opt for a VBAC this time around. I have just had my second naturally if you can call it that. I had to have an episiotomy and got a 2nd degree tear, a week after having Sam my stitches had all come out and I had a pretty bad infection. I feel personnally they are down sides to both. After the section the first time with Charlie I was sore for a couple of weeks and very tired from the medication the hospital gave me. I suffered bad PND after Charlie. This time after a Vbac I am very very uncomfortable and now facing minor surgery to have things fixed down there, as you can imagine I am quite upset by this. The whole birth experience however was much better this time around, whether this is because I am on my second I can't tell you. I feel much better in myself, emptionally. Leading up to having Sam, my 2nd I was labouring for a week, 3cm. It turned out that Sam was coming out sideways. I have since seen my gp who has actually said that because I also have fibroids this could be why my babies get into funny positions. I wish they would have told me this when I was making my decision to have a section or not. At the end of it all now though both me and my babies are doing well x

im sorry to hear it wasn't the best of experiences for u sarah612 -i just hope that it goes well for me. i really don't cope well with hospitals as it is so im really prayin for a straight in & out with this baby. i don't know if i could be awake for surgery again as it just freaks me out too much. i sometimes think why can't i just be normal & have a natural birth like many women do all the time. Glad to hear you & ur children are doing well now xo

Hi Hadl, i too am having a VBAC this time round. I ended up with a emergency c-section 3 years ago and my husband and i were both badly affected by what happened (wont go into detail!) anyway, i saw a consultant last week and she was very sorry about our last experiance and promised one to one care and constant monitoring. I feel so positive about this birth, the only bad thing is the monitoring, they use something similar to a belt which means limited movement, its also in the main hospital and i have to go in as soon as my contractions start so could be a very very long time in hospital before the birth. All that said, the docs must know what they talking about, VBAC means high risk so surely its best to be monitored. if that means no bath then so be it. I wish you all the luck with your birth and i really hope it can be as natural as allows. Keep us updated.
Lyndsey. xx
