Caesarean sectionRecovery time procedure etc for c-section
Hi ladies!
I have a medical condition that requires for me to have a c-section.
I get loads of the pregnancy mags etc however none of them go into detail about c-sections.
As i know i am defo going to have a c-section i was just wondering if anybody could tell me of their experiences and recovery procedures etc.
Essays welcome!!
Thanx, ladies!

hi mrs o'h x i had a section with my twins just over year ago and i had no problems what so ever. the operation itself feels like its over in minutes and i was able to take my own music in etc. the spinal block doesnt really hurt at all as they numb the area first, it hurt more when they put my drip in my hand! i was in hospital for 3 days after and once walking around the next day. it stop hurting after about 3 days and i have had no compliations since. im due again in novemeber and im having another section so it cant be that bad can it. having never had a natural birth i cant say which one i prefer but i can say that a section is in no way less special. good luck with everything, im sure you will be fine x x x
Hiya Mrs O'H. I totally agree with Alexis27, i had to have emergency C Section last October with my daughter after 30 hours in agonising labour!!. The spinal going in did not hurt at all as they numb it first with a local anaesthetic you just feel pushing on your spine, once thats in, its works almost immediately and your legs feel totally independant from your body! its really weird!!!, they lie you down and spray cold stuff on you to see how numb you are, once you cant feel it, they wash your bump with iodine and put the screen up in front of you, then they bring your partner in. My partner was allowed to watch the op on a television screen on the wall, within about 2 mins i felt pushing on my tummy and heard a cry! I had made it clear to them that i wanted my partner to tell me the sex and they were really good, they took Milly straight over to the resuscitare and my partner went over and took some photos and told me we had a girl, he then brought her over for me to see and he put her on my chest, but to be honest there wasnt much room for her and i was being sick!!! while all this was going on, they were stitching me up etc. Once i was back on the hospital bed, they gave Milly to me and let me have skin to skin contact and breastfeed straightaway.
Milly was born at 9am, by 7am the next morning i was walking around and i was discharged on the monday evening, i can honestly say i had no pain from my op, it was just uncomfortable, and i have had no problems since and i will DEFINITELY have a C Section next time. As you can probably tell i am very pro C Section as i had such a positive experience, and next time i am even gonna ask if we can film it so i can watch after!!!.
Sorry this is an essay, but you did say they were welcome!! haha!!
Good Luck! and if you want to know anything else just message me!!!

hi there mrs O'H.
My story starts this way. I was a 37 wks happy enjoy-my-bump preggy,in my 2nd day of prenatal class when i remembered i had to check on the results of my blood test taken a day before. So after the class i went to the prenatal ward..as usual they check your BP first, then the friendly nurse checked it again, and said its a bit high but she won't tell me how high, but Im a healthcare prof myself(only non practising now), i knew she recorded 160/110 mm hg.She then said to go and see the doctor straight. My husband and i were giggling coz we never had a special attention before, then the doctor phoned the maternity ward...and then explanation begins...i have to be induced NOW...reason:pre-eclampsia(high protein in urine and high BP)The next thing i knew i was lying in the maternity ward receiving a gel ,(that was uncomfortable ,i tell you)for 18 hrs my cervix only opened 1-2 cm..next solution?EMERGENCY CS.. The procedure was done exacly like mum2milly,and i never felt so comfortable in any hospital bed, only on my c-section bed, thanks to the very professional and friendly approach of this team(my c-section team)..but they also said its been awhile since they saw a new mum like me joking and taking things strongly. i even asked if i can watch my delivery, they advised me not to. (oh by the way we were all chatting while they're doing the cutting, pulling and stitching).I only stopped when i heard a baby cry,it was a low pitch voice,my baby boy's voice. It was the happiest moment of my life,my tears tasted so sweet .So asked me again if it was painful....i will always say no it wasn't......The recovery?Usually cs mums stay in the ward for 5 days but i pushed myself to go home earlier, told them im ok..there's more people who needs the room and the attention and its best they get it instead of me.I went shopping on my 5th day,God,babies soil many clothes and nappies in a day,eh......
My baby is 4 months old now.I feel more back pain rather than my tummy's pain,i still feel numb along the cut though and evrytime i look at my tummy its my stretch marks that im concerned about..makes me bite my lips.I am doing mild tightening exercises, please don't overdo it......overall Im perfectly alright,if they tell me that my next one is again a Cs,i'll be very thankful.God,i think i can't go through the agonizing pain i heard from the lady next to me when i was in the high dependency ward..she wanted natural birth, bless her.
Goodluck.Any straightforward question, please hit my wall
HI hun, welcome to the site, i had an emergancy c section last june, and to be honest it was nowhere as scary or bad as you might think!!, Your partner can come in with you providing you don't have a general anestetic (only used in real bad emergancys usually), so you should be fine with that, you'll prberly have either a spinal block or an epidural, either arn't to bad i ended up with both during my 3 day labour. The worst part is a little sting when the anestetic is put in then you feel nothing else. Once tha's in they lay you on a table and put a cloth up so you can't see the operation, they spray you with a really cold spray to test wether the block has worked yet, when theya re satisfied then they begin it really didn't seem to take long at all, the worst part was and to be honest on the scale of things you couldn't really say it was alwful, was the fact i could feel them pushing for what seem like ages, there's no pain whats so ever so don't worry about that!!, and then all of a sudden the babys out!!!, they do a quick check and then they wrap the baby up and hand them over to you partner, Tim's face was a picture when they did that to him, haha!!, anyway you get to see you baby right away, i culdn't really hold her, because i only had one free arm, but she was beautiful, and after awhile they took the baby away and Tim went backt o the ward with the baby, and they finished sewing me up and cleaning me up ect they will put a catheta ( sorry cant spell) because you can't feel to stand let alone get to a toilet!!, but you can't feel it in there i thought you would and would know when your having a pee but honestly i didn't feel a thing, and because of some ongoing problems i had it in for about 3 days, though that isn't ness normal, i know other women who have had it out by the next day!. I'll be honest i really did need the pain killers but if you take them regualy they work wonders and try to get up as soon as poss (within reason) as it helps the recovery in the long run. We are now trying for baby no 2, and i would want another c secction, so it can't be that bad or i wouldn't want it!!, I had a 3 day labour which went to pot and i had raised heart rate and lowered blood pressure, then after Hannah was here they decided i might have a blood clot onthe lung and or infection, so i was off to xrays and ct scans, so all in all, i think personally that i would prefer to go for a planned c section next time rather than risk going through all that again, haven't gone into to much detail just incase any pregnant ladies read this that arn't having a c section, and i don't want to put them of labour!!! Good luck Mrs O'H i'm sure everything is going to be fine xxx ps sorry about the essay xxx
hiya im 31 weeks pregnant and my only worry is having a c-section as i dnt like hospitals and staying in on my own iv not bin told i have to have one but it is a worry to me tht i might have to because my lil boy is big wen i went for my 28 weeks check up he wo 2 cm bigger then what he should be!
just wondering how long you have to stay in hospital for?
Hiya yumum08!
I stayed in hosp for 2 nights after my section, although the hosp wanted me to stay in for 3 i told them i would dscharge myself if they didnt! I felt fine, i could move around fine and all my obs were fine!. I think the norm is 3 nights, but you know the NHS, if you are fine and want to go home after 2 and they need the bed, they will let you go!!!!
Hi,i have had 3 c-sections and am due for a 4th in 3wks and having had full labour with the 1st would choose a section every time.I had 2 emergency(1st due to large baby,3rd due to placental abbruption)and 1 planned. Each one was fine no problems and my hospital stays got shorter with each 4,3 and 2 nights.
As soon as you get the feeling back in your legs i would recommend you try and walk about abit it does help. While in with my 3rd the midwives asked me to speak to some of the other mums as they had to be literally dragged out of bed while i was walking about no problem.
Good luck when the time comes you'll be fine
hiya, i had my little boy 4 months ago by c section because my waters broke 3 weeks early and my son was in breech position. i was nervous just before i was taken to have the c section done and it did not hurt having the spinal block, i was more concerned about the drip in my hand! the midwife asked if we would like her to take pics of the c section bein done and i look at the pics now and its still amazing to see my son being born! i would def have another c section and dont worry, u wil b fine when your healing x x good luck x x
dear yumum08, that comment without a name was mine he he....anyway,they asked me to stay for 5 days, also because of my pre-eclampsia but then at 3 days i was already begging to go home coz i can't stand that hospital bed( too soft and was hurting my back so bad,i wasn't able to rest as well coz of too many check ups,bp blood, etc etc or just because its time for them to see you they wake you up and ask" are you alright mum?mamma mia!!!!!!!!!!!!(i was too weak to scream)...........but you'll be fine, the process of giving birth is so memorable it doesn't matter which way, natural or CS.
Break a leg!!!!
