Caesarean sectionPre admission appointment today!
Hi there ladies,
I haven't posted much over the last 9 months...have been very busy with moving house and trying to get things sorted for the imminent arrival of little one. But we found out last week that our baby is breech (I am 38 weeks 4 days :-D) We went for an ECV last week, which after a lot of pain and 3 attempts didn't work, little bub far to comfy in its deckchair position :-). We are now booked for a cesarean on Friday :-)! So excited if not a little bit apprehensive. It is a far cry from the home water birth with minimal pain relief we had planned but the health of the baby and myself is the most important thing!
Anyway I have my pre-admission appointment at the hospital today and I was just wondering if anyone knew what it entailed please? I assume they chat you through the procedure etc...Will they do any tests at all? Also will they scan me to check that the baby is still breech, if by some miracle it has turned, I assume they leave you to try and labour naturally although I know that they is a high risk of have an emergency section this way. Any advice would be greatfully received :-D .

hello, you may have well had your appt by now. Your pre admission appt would be along the lines of having your blood pressure checked, bloods, weight and height, general health questionaire. I'm just going on pre admissions for general surgery rather than obstetrics so I would assume there will be some of that as well for example, like you mention a scan. Hope it goes ok
Hi Mazm,
Thanks for your reply. It turned out it wasn't too bad in the end. They took some blood, and chatted through the procedure, fitted me for some sexi pressure stockings and I signed consent forms :-). Also they gave me some medication to take the night before and morning of to reduce stomach acid, along with some medical shower wash to use the evening before and morning of. They actually made me feel really comfortable about the whole thing. I have never had any form of operation before, not even a filling so I was more then a little apprehensive! I am now feeling confident about what will happen and am very excited about meeting our little one finally :-).
They also did all the usual checks, blood pressure, baby's heartbeat and checked the position (Still breech!). So if bub stays where they are we shall be meeting them on Friday. Although knowing how awkward the littley has been so far it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it turns head down last minute lol :-D.
ah yes, the stockings, I remember them well! lol. Glad all ok, not long now,Magda
